This TPM post claims that Pat Robertson is praying for the spread of swine flu. But the post has no citations, and I can find no external proof of this claim. (Josh, Josh, Josh...) This "Christian" site conveys much the same message. Even though the site is an obvious parody, some DUpes were fooled.
However, a very serious Muslim cleric in North Carolina says that swine flu is Allah's punishment against "The United States of Losers." Others say that swine flu is God's way of punishing lesbians. Or maybe Mexican narco-traffickers. Or maybe atheists. Or maybe Iowans who supported gay marriage. Perhaps we're being punished for eating pigs. Which means that Asian flu (remember that?) was God's way of punishing us for eating MSG-laden Cantonese take-out, and that the Spanish Lady indicates God's serious disapproval of palella.

Somebody tell that Muslim cleric not to let the door hit him in the bum on the way out.
There's a bus leaving for Third world Muslim nations every day, take one.
If God/Allah/Yahweh/Koresh didn't want us to eat pork He wouldn't have made bacon so tasty.
I'm getting tired of iron age tribal religions still having the ability to get more attention from the press and the public than scientists.
What do the Pastafarians say about this or is the Great Spaghetti Monster silent?
oh, goodness !! I just followed that Christian site link and the picture of two 'Gay Mexicans' with the story saying how 'god' sends plagues through swine just was about the most outrageous thing I've seen for awhile. Makes me really proud to be an atheist.
I'm with Myiq! I loves me some bacon!
Thomas Jefferson wrote, when I consider that God is just, I tremble for my country.
And he was a Deist, not ordinarily agreeing that God ever intervenes in man's affairs.
According to the Bible, God judges not only individuals, but societies and kingdoms and nations and empires. He even judged his chosen people, gave them a harsh grade, and flunked them out.
This is not an outrageous fringe opinion, but one that most likely the large majority of Americans believe as Christians, just as those following Islam and Judaism probably also believe it by large majorities.

Dakinikat -
The media is driven by attention-grabbing statements, so they focus on the small percentage of religious people who make them. Even if they went with all scientists, they'd just focus on those who did the same. Examples - this is a result of: having too many kids; taking public transportation; fast food; shaking hands; eating animals, etc. etc. etc.

I reccomend a single prayer "life" assurance..it does wonders
Dakinikat:
I can think of at least seven ways in which atheism per se is - unlike theism per se- is irrational. I'm not sure exactly why one would be proud of that(especially considering that taking atheism to its logical conclusion would require one to kill every creature possessed of the capacity for intelligence, wisdom, and love, (including, presumably, oneself)).
XI:
Actually, according to Christianity, God only judges individuals after they die, and nations only at the End of Days. As for Islam and Juadism, I haven't seen any comprehensive surveys which indicate where the majority of those billions come down on the issue.

Oh my...what is this going to do to barbecue in the South? No hickory-smoked pig?? Whoa!
This was my post. I was not saying Pat had done it - just that pastors like he and John Hagee etc. would be doing it. It was a prediction. Similar to when:
Pat Robertson Predicted:
In late 1976, Robertson predicted that the end of the world was coming in November or October 1982. In a May 1980 broadcast of The 700 Club he stated, "I guarantee you by the end of 1982 there is going to be a judgment on the world."
and
On the January 2, 2007 broadcast of The 700 Club, Robertson said that God spoke to him and told him that "mass killings" were to come during 2007, due to a terrorist attack on the United States. He added, "The Lord didn't say nuclear. But I do believe it will be something like that."[31] When a terrorist attack failed to happen in 2007, Robertson said, in January 2008, "All I can think is that somehow the people of God prayed and God in his mercy spared us."
There are many more - check Wikipedia for more info.
and John Hagee - that fat piece of garbage doesn't so much make predictions that can be disproven - only that the antichrist is here, and hate these people and those people - and he is right and can he have more hot dogs and stuff like that. He's a hate monger. And did I mention he's a fat glutton?
Also (just posted this was my original post) - the same goes for the Muslim extremists. The only reason that I don't pick on them as bad is that the Evangelicals are primarily from America - born with every advantage in the World and even our poor living so much higher than the muslims living as desert people - not even part of this or the last century really. BUT - they MUST be challenged and defeated as well. I even understand I'm an extremist on my side. Here's the difference - I don't advocate superiority - except for the fact that my point of view is based on the scientific method, and I DON'T ADVOCATE HURTING ANYONE - ONLY GETTING RID OF IGNORANCE AND STUPIDITY THAT ADVOCATES FOR THE END OF THE WORLD.
