The party left her as it left me...

Democratic speechwriter Wendy Button, who has seen most of the candidates "up close and personal," leaves the party. An excellent read.
Not only has this party belittled working people in this campaign from Joe the Plumber to the bitter comments, it has also been part of tearing down two female candidates. At first, certain Democrats and the press called Senator Clinton “dishonest.” They went after her cleavage. They said her experience as First Lady consisted of having tea parties. There was no outrage over “Bros before Hoes” or “Iron My Shirt.”
But thank God for election 2008. We can talk about the wardrobe and make-up even though most people don’t understand the details about Senator Obama’s plan with Iraq. When he says, “all combat troops,” he’s not talking about all troops—it leaves a residual force of as large as 55,000 indefinitely. That’s not ending the war; that’s half a war.
I can no longer justify what this party has done and can’t dismiss the treatment of women and working people as just part of the new kind of politics. It’s wrong and someone has to say that. And also say that the Democratic Party’s talking points—that Senator John McCain is just four more years of the same and that he’s President Bush—are now just hooker lines that fit a very effective and perhaps wave-winning political argument…doesn’t mean they’re true. After all, he is the only one who’s worked in a bipartisan way on big challenges.

Is there some way we can get a mulligan on this election?

We need some better options than "bad" and "worse"

Jeez, you people would not Buh-LIEVE the incredibly stupid Obot comment I just rejected. (At least I hope I rejected it: Blogger has been acting wiggy this morning.)

First, an attack on Joe the Plumber, who, the bot insists, is not a plumber. "Check your facts!" I did. Look it up on Wikipedia, and other places.

This bot missed my point. Go down a couple of posts and read it again. Carefully. The stuff about Joly and the Protocols. I went on that jaunt for a reason: To show that fanatical Obots are every bit as creepy as the anti-Semites of ninety years ago.

What the hell is WITH these creeps? Why can't they see my point, which is obvious? Smearing Joe the Plumber is utterly beside the point. It's not as though the guy targeted Obama. It was the other way around. The point is that Obama went into the guy's neighborhood, asked to be asked questions, and when questioned, gave an answer whose wording opened him to political attack.

How in the world does Joe's personal life relate to the problems caused by that answer? It doesn't matter if the guy is Al Capone or Saint Bernadette. Whether saint or sinner, who cares? Obama's answer was the issue.

God, Obots are SO FUCKING STUPID...! Smearing people is all they know how to do. They do it even when it makes no sense to do it, even when doing it is self-destructive.

Remember how the GOP acted during the attempted coup . . er "impeachment" of the Big Dawg?

Poll after poll showed that the voters DID NOT want Bill Clinton impeached and his popularity was going up while the GOP's was going down.

The GOP could see (or should have seen) they were marching off a cliff but they couldn't help themselves. It cost Gingrich his job, and Livingston too.

I remember the days when people would bash and attack republicans. I felt good then. Like I was on the right side.

I also remember the day when the republicans looked and acted like decent human beings. (They really have McCain/Palin to thank for salvaging the image.) Meanwhile all the "progressives" were/are foaming at the mouth. I also remember that day being shocked out of my mind.

It's a long and arduous journey. And while it never happens for all, the political evolution continues.

Joe: Have a good November 5th. I highly recommend taking two aspirin the night before. You are going to need the relief.
