Water and war

This DU journal compiles some important data about the role of water scarcity in the wars of the future, particularly wars in the Middle East.

Speaking of which: Here is today's incredibly ominous indication of the likelihood of war with Iran and Syria. The University of Maryland provides classes for U.S. servicemen abroad, and they been asked to bid on educational programs for -- you guessed it -- Iran and Syria.

Naomi Klein was alerting us to "the role of water scarcity in the wars of the future" since 2003, "particularly wars in the Middle East". Since then, the snows of Kilimanjaro in Africa and the snows of the Andes in South America have almost disappeared as sources of fresh water for the large populations that have depended on them.

We have been terrorized into accepting as our fate that only war will be the result of global catastrophes, and why is that?

"Speaking of which:" Eric Alterman's "ominous" report about U of MD's education services abroad is another instance of Disaster Journalism, n'est-ce pas, mon ami?

Maybe, just fucking maybe, not everyone who wears the uniform wants to bomb everyone back to the Stone Age. Maybe there's a genuine effort being arranged to train budding military officers about other people and their culture, especially in those people's own language.
