Odd.
Fox is -- finally -- going after Hillary Clinton. Now she's a killer of kittens. Not to mention a murderer of men. This is precisely the sort of smear we heard ad nauseum during the 1990s. But why now? I always presumed that the strategy was to hold this stuff in reserve until she secured the nomination.
Hmm. Maybe the right-wing tacticians think that saving the entire barrage until that time might be a little too obvious...?
At any rate, I encourage the Murdochians to hit her hard and to hit her immediately. Maybe their attacks will help a Democratic candidate who stands a better chance against Giuliani. Clinton has lost ground to him in the polls, her lead having evaporated to a tie. And if she can manage no better than "even" in this environment, she's a likely loser in November, 2008.
Even as Giuliani has gained, approval for the administration's handling of the Iraq war has seen a small but sustained increase. This news should (but won't) sober up those progressives who giddily believe that they live in a country where everyone has turned progressive.
By the way, I encourage readers to take a look at Michael Fauntroy's explanation as to why Obama has faltered with black voters.

The Senator from Illinois is not electable or even nominatable. Giuliani is also too 'ethnic' to be elected president. Polls at this stage serve only one purpose: they announce a 'front runner' and assign values to the contenders. That purpose has only one purpose: it guarantees large campaign contributions to the 'front runner' and the close contenders. That purpose assures revenues for the advertising outlets of the contenders, chiefly the mass media.
I'll say again that it doesn't matter what gets slung at Hillary, it won't compare to what has already been slung at her, plus there's not only no there there, there's no news there. Every day and every hour she reveals a mettle which no one can say could apply to any other presidential candidate in recent history.
And let's face it, she will be pilloried because it's been a long time coming. For 30 years the pathological wing of the Republican 'community' has lived only for payback for the Nixon impeachment vote. And we know who helped write the House Judiciary's Bill of Impeachment Nixon was charged with. You might say that Hillary set in motion the outed "vast right-wing conspiracy", which has not stopped breathing, and never will stop until kingdom come or Hillary becomes president.
