Hagel seems to now be respected and admired by many on the Left for his stand against the war. But before progressives consider casting their ballot for him, they need to be aware of the fact that Hagel is no progressive---or even a moderate. Just take a look at his voting record---he's as hard-core conservative as any other Republican in Congress.
I've wondered that myself, Joseph. I'm inclined to agree with the Perot comment. He is more likely to attract dissatisfied Rep's than Dem's. It is their party that is fracturing.
Hagel even voted against having a Federal minimum wage! Also, don't forget the ES&S connection and the strong appearance that he stole his election in '96. If he runs, I would expect that those things will come out again. That along with his 100% conservative voting record would seem to me to make it unlikely that he'll peel off many Democratic votes.

Perot's 19% of the vote back in '92 didn't seem to do Bush I any good.
