Various...

Edwards vs. Romney? In Iowa, Edwards leads among Dems and Mitt Romney leads among Republicans. You know, I can live with that contest. Not that I think Romney would make a good president, but he would be more easily defeated than would Giuliani. (Truth be told, I consider a "which-way-is-the-wind-blowing" pol like Mitt to be less dangerous than a zealot like Dubya.) I have come to prefer Obama to Edwards, but I admire both.

Brits-krieg: The Brits are talking to the Iraqi insurgents and making plans to leave once and for all.

Remembrance of things Pabst: At the World Bank, people who wanted Paul Wolfowitz gone took to wearing a blue ribbon. Someone with a puckish sense of wit seems to have told Wolfowitz that the ribbon symbolized (get this!) malaria awareness. So he came in to work wearing one himself! (Thanks to X for pointing this one out.)

Dick-gate. The rumor that Cheney used Palfrey's prostitution service keeps gaining steam. Yet so far, Wayne Madsen seems to be the only guy behind the reports. Once again, I ask for someone to come forward with a non-Madsen source...

Speaking of vicious rumors: Allegations keep surfacing that GWB is an odder duck, sexually speaking, than even Jeff Gannon might have guessed. Check out both Covert History and this TPM Coffeehouse squib:
Is it relevant that in his youth he had a reputation for slapping women around, that his words and behaviour continually reveal features of pathological sexual sadism; That there are recurring stories he indulged in gay sodomy in university, and appears to have a homoerotic penchant for touching and stroking bald men, andthat several of his inner circle are gay men; That the photo ops with black children were curtailed because his handlers felt he showed inappropriate sexual interest in these children and appeared on videotapes with them making inappropriate and weirdly adult remarks; or his peculiar behaviour witht he German Prime Minister which borders on sub-juvenile seduction attempts?
I feel ashamed of myself for reading and repeating such baseless allegations. Really, I deserve a good talking-to.

Gingrich: He says that our big problem is not Iraq, not health care, not jobs going overseas, not global warming. No, our big problem is the growing culture of radical secularism. The War on Christmas was just a symptom, y'see...

And we all know what a model of morality and religious piousness and uprightness Newt Gingrich is!

I find these claims of "Christians are under attack by the evil seculars!" similar to all the claims that anti-Semitism is rising because some people are criticizing Israel current actions in the Middle East.

When you're the bully and you want to dominate a situation, the best way to dismiss the accusations against you and justify your actions is to claim to be the victim of your accusers.

Iowa caucuses are only important if they can showcase an unexpected capacity in the winner, like John Kerry last time.

Otherwise, they're just as likely to vote for Dick Gephardt.

Newt Gingrich embodies the term, "morally bankrupt". And he has the gall to talk about "radical secularism"? Is he serious?! Why don't we talk to his ex-wives to see how pious he is? Methinks it would make for very interesting conversation.
