Peepees against Gore

Today (or yesterday), Al Gore has:

1. Argued that impeachment would be a waste of the nation's resources.

2. Argued that congressional Democrats deserve the "benefit of the doubt" for voting for the Iraq funding bill:
"I would urge Democrats who want our troops out yesterday to show some understanding of the difficult hand the Democratic leaders have to play and give them the benefit of the doubt in expecting that they are going to continue to push the mandate they received from the voters last fall to change the course of this war."
3. Argued that he could not legally have done more to challenge the results of the 2000 campaign.
"I took it all the way to a final Supreme Court decision. And in our system, there is no intermediate step between a final Supreme Court decision and violent revolution. So, at that point, having taken it as far as one could, then the question becomes, are we going to be a nation of laws and not people?"
Well. I wonder how the Progressive Purists -- the blame-Democrats-firsters, the no-compromise types -- will react to these pronouncements. I expect to see some "You Bastard Gore" commentary bubbling up in various regions within Blogostan Left. (It's already happening.) But how widespread will that sentiment be?

Personally, I think the Progressive Purists -- let's call them peepees -- are almost as annoying as the Limbaugh listeners. In all the time I've been watching politics (since the 1970s), I haven't seen the peepees accomplish many practical results.

Bedfellows: I had a chance to sit down with Gore's new book today. At one point, he talks about a former political opponent who became a "good friend," a man Gore considers a fine public servant: Victor Ashe. Ashe, you will recall, has been accused of being George W. Bush's gay lover.

I wonder how the peepees will react?

GOD. Anyone who honestly--honestly--believes Gore could have done anything more to advance his (and our) cause after the Supreme Court's decision to appoint W. to the presidency had been handed down should seek psychiatric counseling. Jesus H. Christ. The batshit crazy troglodytes claiming that are telling us everything we need to know about them (and their typically obvious agendas) right there.

That's right the democrats are LOSERS. They and every fool who continues to vote for them are traitors.

I like Gore, and this is not in defense of him. He is and has always been a politician and as such, he knows not to burn bridges. This article by Scott Ritter says what Gore can not or will not say.

Al appears to be another Israel First US politician. Google Al Gore Randwick Israel. While he was launching his book there, not so many moons ago, he was also soliciting donations for Israel. The pro-Palestinian crowd were not happy.

And among Democrats that "are running" the closest to Gore's views is Edwards and here is an article by Jeff Cohen

I just read an interesting article Cannon that said many of the Dem candidates also believe in this " unitary executive" thing. The author of the article suggested pegging the bad behavior and not the man. That too may be beneficial but I am in favor of impeachment.
If I break the law, I pay the fine or the time..... How come elected people get passes?

I don't agree with Gore on everything, but I respect the man himmself. Therefore, he gets the benefit of my doubt on support of the Iraq funding bill.
As for the 2000 election he fought within the law to win, GWB did not. Which is more than I can say for Kerry, who didn't bother to put up a fight.

Anyways, this sentence got my attention, Joe: In all the time I've been watching politics (since the 1970s), I haven't seen the peepees accomplish many practical results.--- I agree completely, but why do you this is? How have the nazified "fundies" on the exteme other end of the continuum, managed to highjack this nation so successfully while the peepees have failed?

Jen, of course Gore (and others) should have done more. For one very simple reason: with the illegal appointment of Bush a coup effort succeeded. At that point, whatever else was up and running in America, it wasn't a democracy. There is an idiotic notion held by many Americans that the artifacts and appearance of democracy must be maintained at all costs. Never mind that the substance has been gutted. "The show must go on."

The US has been subject to a succesful coup. People need to accept this fact. You don't live in a democracy. When the Supreme Court made the illegal decision in 2000 to install Bush the Democratic Congressman and the people should have taken to the streets. Because what they were offered - and accepted in place of democracy - was theatre. And that's what's crippling the US to this day. Bush knows that his little wifey public has taken all her beatings and sought to find excuses instead of fighting back or walking out.

On Sept 25, 2001 when John Yoo sent his memo with the words "unitary executive" to the White House, Bush liked it so much he used it 145 times in his 1200 signing statements. Who said Bush is inflexible? But as Margaret Cohn points out, Bush has cut down on his signing statements lately because they're no longer needed. He is an eclectic, imaginative, serial abuser of democracy, a dictator who has succesfully shredded the Constitution. It doesn't trouble him because he's also a sociopath. The problem with morally and mentally deficient people like this is that that after a while they actually start to believe their own lies. They demand that reasonable people fit in with their craziness. You DON'T have a democracy, Jen. You have theatre. It's been that way for some time. Impeach this guy! Do you negotiate with a home invader? Talk about how the neighbors will complain if you yell? Impeach him now! Shut the country down if you have to. He qualifies for eviction on about 10 different counts - and you know it. Get him out or just go on with your Kabuki every single day. The entire country is right now just a beaten wifey. Wake up!

Give the purists their due. We're really quite harmless. It isn't like we're ever going to wield power. But we can break a lot of windshields. As for Gore, he just keeps on rolling, rolling, rolling over. And it's a public service, because nobody is going to save us. He's letting us down easy.

Batshit crazy? We'll all be crazy after another year of serial lies. It'll become a game to see who keeps their marbles. Exhaustion will set in. Days of thinking the opposite of what we're told will take its toll.

I predict that Patrick Fitzgerald will be the only leader who isn't replaced by a pod person. He'll never point and scream. WenG
