Lost it

But always keep in mind that losing the audience is not the same as losing the vote. This summary paragraph from The Smirking Chimp tells the story as well as anything else can tell it:
Republican Saxby Chamblis defeats Democrat Max Cleland in the Georgia Senatorial race, overcoming a two to five point lead by Cleland and posting a final seven point lead. The probability of a nine to twelve point polling error is less than 2%. Due to the use of Diebold paperless electronic voting machines, Chamblis' victory can not be validated. (Two former Diebold technicians have recently revealed that top Diebold officials ordered the installation of unauthorized secret files into the voting machines shortly before the election).

there is no question but we need to be on our guard. however, as i opined ad nauseam a few days ago, the terrain is quite different than it was 2002.

in 2002, it was just one year past 9/11, the war drums were beating, and GA was the first state to go full electronic with voting machines, no paper trail. there was no groundswell about iraq then, and there was no groundswell on the vote fraud issue.

it's SO different now. only 16% of americans believe the official version of 9/11. over 65% think iraq is a mess. and there's far more press out there now regarding the nightmares with the voting machines, not to mention the disenfranchisement in the past two national elections.

but the biggest issue is trust; NO ONE TRUSTS THESE BASTARDS.

THAT is entirely different than in the past, and it will be what takes them down, if not this time, then whenever it does. they have violated any trust they held, and they can never, EVER get it back again.

lincoln understood this dynamic, and addressed it just before pointing out that you can't fool all the people all the time.

if this is not their end, it is certainly the beginning of their end.
