Whaddya think? Will Bush scapegoat his own brain?

Seems highly likely, particularly with the resurrection of the family fixer, James Baker.

And truth is, there's not much for Rove to do know now. Any "capital" Bush may have enjoyed is long gone. He'll spend the next 2 years on his exercise book, making gaffes (like the doozy just out of Vietnam), and mortifying the nation with his latent criminality and shallowness of mind.

So, does that mean, as dr. e. keeps pointing out and I keep agreeing with, the we'll stop having to pay for his old job decription and old WH digs?

Well, of course, it's not up to Bush. Nothing is up to Bush. Nothing has ever been up to Bush.

So now that Rove is gone...and you can bet your sweet ass he's gone...whoever is calling the shots will scapegoat whomever.

And I would not bet that Cheney is calling the shots. It's probably the Baker-Gates bunch, which of course includes GHWB.

Which, also is interesting. Because I do not think GHWB is interested in whitewashing his asshole son. However, I do think GHWB is interested in making the Republican Party look as good as possible.

So...if Rove is sacrificed, it will not be because Cheney has called for it. It will because the Iraq Study Group (read Grand OLD Party) has called for it.

How Cheney fares remains to be seen. If the ISG has to sacrifice Cheney it will.

Cheney has always been part of the Bush Sr. team. He was when he was Secretary of Defense during the Bush Sr. administration. He was all through the 90's, when he was taking his cues on foreign policy from Gates' mentor, Brent Scowcroft. He was in particular c. 1999-2000, when he was regularly listed as being one of the old Bush Sr. guys who would help remedy Bush Jr.'s lack of foreign policy expertise as he prepared to run for president.

So this whole Baker-Gates vs. Cheney meme is a red herring. They're on the same side, always have been, and even if Cheney should end up falling on his sword, it will be because he's taking one for the team, and not because he's in any way standing in opposition to them.

Me, I'm just looking forward to the day when I can write the headline: "BUSH LOSES BRAIN."
