The intel committee

Alcee Hastings is out. Harman appears to be out. A little bird keeps chirping the name "Reyes! Reyes!" into my ear. I'd rather hear the name Holt. But Silvestre Reyes doesn't seem so bad, based on the little I've learned about him. If you know something about this fellow that I don't, please pass the news along.

Hastings made a statement in which he extended his pledge to work cordially with Nancy Pelosi. This statement ended with these words: "Sorry, haters, God is not finished with me yet." Oh, for crying out loud. We didn't hate the guy. He has served well in Congress. We simply cannot dismiss the evidence indicating that he took a bribe when he was a judge nearly a quarter-century ago. Perhaps one of the Diety's uncompleted tasks might have something to do with teaching Alcee Hastings to be a little less neurotic...?

That comment alone proves his unfitness for the position. Time was, second and third rate minds went into politics.

Now it's nearly all fools and knaves. And of course that famous Mencken quote -- that someday the American people would fulfill their deepest desire and elect one of their own, an imbecile, President -- is effectively fulfilled in the person of GWB, despite the fact that the fact that GWB has yet to win a national election.

"Neurotic" is putting it mildly, Joe. He is a selfish, narcissistic, illiterate asshole - on a good day. As someone who lived in FL during the shameful, embarrassing 1989 debacle, I've rarely seen a more despicable public figure. If the CBC can't do any better than offering Hastings gs or Jefferson political cover, fuck them.
