Dead in the Water

Last night I saw a remarkable BBC documentary which has received little or no distribution in the United States: USS Liberty: Dead in the Water. In a non-sensationalistic, methodical and utterly persuasive fashion, the film proves that, during the 1967 Six-Day War, unmarked Israeli jets and ships attacked the USS Liberty, an unarmed NSA spy vessel.

The Israelis used napalm and torpedoes. They shot at the lifeboats. And they knew full well that the Liberty was American; not only was the flag flying, the attackers had jammed the communications.

Why did the Israelis attack a ship belonging to a friendly government? And why did LBJ's administration go to such lengths to cover up the incident?

Many theories have been proposed over the years, most of them revolving around the idea that the ship had intercepted a particularly sensitive Israeli secret. Recently discovered documentation has revealed a deeper reason: Operation CYANIDE. This was a plan to sink an American ship and blame the Egyptians (Israel's enemy at the time), who were then allied with the Soviet Union.

Even those familiar with the Liberty tragedy may not know that nuclear-equipped American bombers were immediately dispatched toward Cairo. The bombers were recalled only when it was confirmed that the Liberty had (almost miraculously) survived the attack.

The BBC film suggests that a key planner of CYANIDE was James Jesus Angleton, the ultra-paranoid CIA "molehunter" who was also the Agency's liaison officer with Israel. One should keep in mind that the Liberty incident -- which could have escalated into full-scale war with Egypt's sponsor, the USSR -- occurred a mere four years after the JFK assassination. I have long believed that Angleton was the chief architect of that event -- his first attempt to trigger war between the superpowers.

This not-so-distant history is very relevant to current events. Anyone with common sense understands that certain powerful people hope to see nuclear clouds over Iran and other Mideast nations. The assault on the Liberty teaches us that those who would engineer war are perfectly willing to frame an enemy -- and to sacrifice American lives.

Simply put: America is Israel's bitch. Always has been, always will be.

Joseph, if the Israelis had the chutzpah to do that to the Liberty for the sake of provoking the US into war, would it be surprising to learn that they brought the WTC down with explosives, for the same reason? Perhaps this time they made sure the job was finished...

I wouldn't say "the Israelis" were necessarily the prime movers in this case, and I am still not sure who played the bitch to whom. The film's fingering of Angleton and his confreres opened my eyes to a whole new take on the matter.

The Israelis were able to take on Egypt successfully in the Six Day War. They really didn't need to trick America into doing their fighting for them.

Now look at it from a Cold War perspective. Having a Soviet ally sink (or seem to sink) an American ship would have changed the entire political dynamic of the '60s. Consider: Would Vietnam have remained an unpopular war? Would LBJ have remained an unpopular president?

On top of all that is the Angleton factor. The guy was nuts. He was convinced that the U.S. governmnet was lousy with Soviet infiltrators. He may well have welcomed the ide of war with the USSR.

Ah, this blog.

No matter how many times I swear I'm never coming back here, I always get reeled back in. Today, it's by the reminder that this is the one and only blog I can find at the moment that is both current and run by a guy all too familiar with James Jesus Angelton's disturbed mental state. THERE IS NO COOLER BLOG.

p.s. Joseph, you're not going to live at 29 Palms. If all else fails, you can come and live with me.

1. If the little bit that only me has learned about US-corporation and Bush-family to Nazis connection is only 10% of what the Israely government then must know - wouldn't that be a huge lever for blackmailing ?
2. Pollard, the Israely atom spy then would be one of the very few cards in the hands of the US government to counterweight that.
3. Some years after the USS Liberty incident Israel bought two submarines in Britain. The Israelian crews went there to fetch them. One of the submarines never made it to Israel.
After entering the streets of Gibraltar it disapeared. I know this from a survivor, who should have been on the boat, but in the last moment was ordered to swap to the other one, which savely arrived. I sometimes think, this could have been an act of revenge by the US.

"As I sailed out/on the streets of Gibralter..."

Must have been a sight to see, even before it disappeared.

Sorry, Anon.

Israeli involvement in false flag ops is legendary, going back to the Lavon Affair in 1955 which, coincidentally, also involved Egypt. They also have been known to use Arab operatives to carry out their missions, including the assasination of a suspected terrorist leader in Syria many years ago. They are very creative and deceptive in their covert operations, all the better to effect the behavior and decision-making of others in their favor.

Remember that group of Israelis (including former Mossad operatives) who were spotted celebrating on the roof of their van in New Jersey while the twin towers burned and collapsed across the river? I wonder whatever happened to that story? Perhaps there's a link there that should be explored.

I agree: The assault on the Liberty teaches us that those who would engineer war are perfectly willing to frame an enemy -- and to sacrifice American lives.

I am presently concerned about the possibilitiy of such a false flag attack in Hawaii on the island of Oahu where I live (http://starbulletin.com/2006/08/06/news/story09.html). There is a nuclear drill/exercise starting today and running through August 17. One of the things that has me most concerned is that the commander of the Special Operations Command is a guy named Gen. David Fridovich. He was in charge of a Special Operatins Task Force in the Philippines from Aug 2000 to July 2002, a time of numerous terrorist bombings, especially in the largely Muslim, resource-rich, southern islands, including Mindanao.

The alleged CIA agent/Muslim rebel provocateur Michael Meiring was also active there during the same period. Some of you may know that Meiring accidentally blew his legs off in his Davao City hotel room when a bomb he was preparing prematurely detonated (May 16, 2002). A couple of Americans identifying themselves as FBI showed up at the hospital a few days later as an investigation was being launched by Philippine government officials. Meiring was whisked out of the hospital and out of the country. A Philippine court requested extradition, but it has apparently yet to be honored by our government. "Special Operations" frequently seems to be military/intelligence code for covert and/or illegal, "black bag" activities. It seems reasonable to assume that Fridovich must have been aware of or had overseen Meiring's alleged false sponsor activities.

I am very uneasy that Fridovich is assigned here in Honolulu at this particular time, and while this nuclear drill/exercise is going on. As many of you know, a military exercise can often serve as cover for an actual, false flag terorist act. I note that despite such a record in the Philippines (or perhaps because?), Fridovich has risen quickly in rank from Colonel in 2002 to Brigadier General to Major General today.

If anyone else wishes to ask questions or express their views to the SOC at Camp Smith in Honolulu their tel. no. is (808) 477-6180.

There are two things significant enough to cause Israel major trouble that have been hypothesized to have been the reason she tried to sink the USS Liberty.

One, which has been fairly well known for years, is that the state of the art signal/intelligence equipment aboard the ship had proof through its intercepts that Israel had started the war by pre-emptively and simultaneously destroying all neighboring Arab countries' air forces on the ground before they could get airborne. Since these enemy air bases were all different distances and therefore also different flight times away from the Israeli fighters or bombers, making the strikes simultaneous so that no word of warning could be passed to another Arab country required that the takeoffs be carefully timed, planned in advance, and not really possible as a reaction to an attack.

While all the senior members of the Israeli government and military of the time have since admitted the war was optional, at their discretion, not necessary, and only begun by them for territorial aggrandizement through aggressive war, it would seem this first secret was not that important. Yet that is wrong-- Israel badly needed her original cover story of responding in self defense, and stuck with that line of bull for years. While the truth is known in Israel, admitted openly, many Jews in America seem to have never learned the initial cover story was a lie.

A newer story, one I'd never seen before a week ago, but which evidently even made papers at the time, was the summary execution of scores to hundreds of Arab (I think Egyptian)soldiers captured by Israel, a gross violation of the Geneva Accords. (They had them dig their own graves, and then machine gunned them into those graves. It is now claimed that the USS Liberty had received electronic intercepts of the communications whereby these war crime violations were ordered from Tel Aviv.

The US military is aware of the potential of Israeli false flag attacks. On September 10-11, 2001, the Washington Times had a front page article describing the analysis done by the Army War College on US participation in a peacekeeping force in the Middle East (about what is being proposed now along the Lebanese/Israeli border, but instead along the old 'Green Line' pre-'67 war boundary). In describing the tactical situation, they ran through the various power players on the scene, and described the Mossad as 'the wild card, cunning and ruthless, able to attack UN/US forces and disguise their attack as a Palestinian or Arab attack.'
