Is Jason Leopold telling the truth when he says that the Rove indictment will happen tomorrow? The Next Hurrah offers up some backstory on Leopold: Seems the writer has a habit of coming to his own defense by writing posts under fake names.
Now, I can understand why some writers use pseudonyms -- after all, the Next Hurrah piece is ascribed to "DHinMI," a monicker which presumably adorns no birth certificate. Here on this blog, we have a wonderful "dr. elsewhere" whose real name is not actually "elsewhere."
But adopting a masquerade in order to applaud yourself is a very different matter.
I sprinted away from the tale told by Kevin Furlong (the former Air Force Major leveling accusations against General Michael Hayden) when I belatedly discovered that Furlong had resorted to that sort of trickery. Here in L.A., an entertainment columnist named Nikki Finke (I cannot stand that woman) has been known to play the same nutty game.
Folks, if you insist on trying your hand at this nonsense, take some advice: 1. Learn how ISPs work, and 2. Use the free 'puters at your local library.
That said, I very much doubt that Leopold made this whole thing up. As noted below, his odd behavior makes him the perfect target for a piece of Rovian sleight-of-hand.
UPDATE: Leopold may have pulled the same masquerade trick on Xymphora's site, where -- unless I miss my guess -- he wrote under the nick "Inspector Clouseau."
