Powell rumor update

Remember the rumor (mentioned about two posts down) that Colin Powell testified to Fitzgerald that, in 2003, he handed the Plame info to Cheney during a trip aboard Air Force One? Billmon takes a look at the tale and pronounces it bunk. Apparently, the yarn originated with email from a fake "insider."

Who concocted this email? And why? I'm not sure. Interestingly, this hoax had the rare virtue of subtlety; most fakes wallow in the sort of over-the-top details that only a Tom Flocco would take at face value. Long time readers will recall that we saw a similar disinfo crop up during the initial contorversy over the 2004 pseudo-election.
