Bob Fertik, of www.democrats.com, offers this interesting insight into the growing impeachment movement:
A nationwide group opposed to President Bush's policies cites a new poll as showing that it is time for a serious national dialogue on the impeachment of Bush and other top officials. That nationwide group can be found at www.impeachcentral.com.
The Zogby International poll found that 42% would support impeachment, while 50% would oppose. Even 25% of Republicans would now support impeaching Bush. Support was never so great for the impeachment of Bill Clinton. In 10 polls taken before the House began impeachment hearings, only 26% supported impeachment. Shortly prior to his impeachment, an NBC poll found that only 27% favored impeachment while 69% opposed. Even after Clinton admitted lying and was impeached by the House, various polls found only 33% supported convicting Clinton in the Senate, while 60% opposed.
Do I think impeachment stands much chance? Not really. Not with the Republican stranglehold on both houses of Congress.
However, I encourage everyone to memorize the figures above and to publicize those numbers. Keep repeating these facts until the cable news propagandists are forced to come up with a response. These figures illustrate the disconnect between reality and the pseudo-reality created by those propagandists.
On another subject: I've been lax in the upkeep of my links list -- and I've been downright rotten in helping other "start-up" blogs in the way that some folks kindly helped me at the beginning. One site that deserves your attention, however, is Gary Buell's Covert History -- if you have an interest in the JFK assassination and the spy scandals of yore, this site will definitely reward.

Rather than the defeatist "impeachment ain't
gonna happen" language I'd frame the issue
thus:
1. impeachment would be premature
2. midterm elections traditionally go to
the opposition in a regime's sixth year
3. 2006 will be the "Year of 9/11 Truth"
as we have five-year retrospectives on all
the events leading up to 9/11, starting
with 1/05 when Bush shut down FBI
investigations of suspected terrorist
financiers, including Osama's relatives,
and Condi rejected Richard Clarke's plan
to go after al Qaeda militarily and
financially.
4. A wave of revulsion could well yield a
Democratic sweep in 2006, making
impeachment in 2007 a practical goal.
This of course depends on having vote
counts in 2006 that bear some resemblance
to the will of the voters.
Thanks for the inspiration and the link re the impeachment movement!
Re helping "start-up" bloggers: I am part of a group blog @ www.GrokYourWorld.com. Our primary author, my college poli sci professor, has been putting some good stuff up there over the past eight or nine months. And although I have not posted much lately since I have been doing the HTML clean-up for his posts, I will post on the impeachment numbers and credit you. So I invite you and your readers to check us out.
