John Conyers is on another crusade

American hero John Conyers, the congressman who did so much to uncover the 2004 vote fraud, now has a plan to draw attention to the Downing Street memos. As you know, these documents prove the fraudulence of the Bush administration's push for war. Unfortunately, not enough people are aware that these documents even exist.

That's why Conyers intends to hold "town hall meetings" on this issue across the country. For updates on when and where, keep checking Conyers' blog. Another "must-click" site is AfterDowningStreet, which should keep readers up to date.

As Brad Friedman notes:

We are told that "at least" 10 U.S. Congressional Members will be holding these Town Hall Meetings, and that -- unlike Bush and Cheney's phony Town Hall Meetings -- the forums will actually be open to the public for discussion. No loyalty pledges to be required before attending.
All of which leaves me wondering: Just when will the daily radio attacks on Conyers begin? I'm stunned that the Rovians have not yet found a way to turn him into the Demon of the Year.

i think a couple of things about conyers can explain why repugs don't attack conyers.

one, this would bring undue attention to his positions. he's not getting a great deal of press, if any at all, and so attacking him would only highlight what he's doing.

two, i mean really, conyers is a saint. he just oozes calm, gentility, respect, compassion, wisdom, on top of his clear and articulate, not to mention passionate, devotion to the democratic process. there is just nothing about his persona that would make it easy to attack. this could so easily backfire on them.

dana milbanks tried to make him look silly, and succeeded in only looking silly, and mean-spirited, himself.

actually, let's hope there comes a day when they do start attacking him. i have no doubt that his responses will be so perfectly appropriate, they'll be devastating to them.

hey. bring 'em on!

Conyers will go down in history as a modern day Paul Revere. He is a true patriot.

Hilarious stuff! Conyers is a radical crackpot who has been dissected innumerable times by conservative pundits. He uncovered no--absolutely zero--vote fraud in Ohio. His purpose, as always, was to frighten black voters from straying off the plantation. There were long lines at polling booths in Chicago, Philadelphia, and Manhattan. Conyers doesn't give a rat's patoot about that and neither do any of you. The Democrats who requisition voting machines in those one-party towns are indifferent to any hints that they might be inconveniencing voters. Ohio is different because Bush won there, pure and simple. The Bush campaign, as everyone understands, had no influence whatever on the number of voting machines assigned to various districts.

The lines that you used about Conyers scaring blacks off the plantation says nothing about Conyers, but it certainly says a lot about your mentality. Conyers was not elected to be a sheep, but to speak out, whether you agree with him or not.
