I will have time to write more later, but for now, this thought: Maybe the (obviously coordinated) attacks on OWS should be seen as a good thing. One can argue that the protests had run their course, in terms of drawing attention to the message. Forcing "The Man" to take action emphasizes the underdog status of the movement. People instinctively root for the underdog.
What's the alternative? If the protesters were to stay in the park, how would things end? Eventually, the movement would peter out. Or the infiltrators and hired clowns would finally succeed in making the protests look bad.
The current crackdown can be turned into a win if the protesters can think of something new and creative.

Don't you read Ian Welsh? He pretty much gets it.
