Who are you?

Those of you who hoped that the health care fiasco could be fixed in conference committee will be disheartened: There will be no such committee. And no three-day waiting period so congressfolk can have time to read the bill.

In light of these events, I must ask you to pick the graphic which, in your view, best describes the current situation. Your choice will define you.

#3.
I confess I have no idea who the guy in #4 is.

There are three guys in #4: First is A'nullp-Roh-B, visitor from the planet xlyphon. In the middle is some Spanish artist. Last, we have Bill Z. Bub, a.k.a every woman's first husband.

#3 - One Party, under Corporation.

The dude in the middle is Salvadore Dali, the Spanish surrealist--he of the melting watch.

I get an image of Obama and Rahm squatting over the supine bodies of all of us--progressives, Democrats, and America itself--and letting fly, over and over and over again. Drawn in the style of George Grosz.

Sorry. Most of my images are completely nonscatological--nay, almost spiritual--usually done in a socialist-realist style, suitable for children of all ages. Please don't draw my image, Joe. But it pretty well expresses how I feel.

As a PUMA or PAL or SmartProg™ or whatever you want to call me, I engage in a lot of "What's PUMA for 'I told you so'?" I brag about the YoutTube clip I uploaded more than a year ago, called "The Democrats' Answer to George W. Bush," which was my silly attempt to warn my fellow Americans.

But in fact, I am not Nostradamus. I didn't ever think it would be this bad. Bad, I was pretty sure. But not this bad. I'm as stunned as anybody at how screwed we are, and will go with image number three, which has the advantage of being nonsexual.

I am going with number 4, becuz that alien guy is kinda cute.

Perry, your reference to Nostradamus made me nostalgic for the Weekly World News all over again. Remember their occasional column by Nostradumbass (Nostradamus's somewhat less intelligent younger brother)? Sigh...the good old days when we had the Weekly World News and a real Democrat in the White House.

I choose #3 because as bad as the two party system was, there were differences. We now find ourselves with one party screwing Americans. The picture I would have preferred would be animal #3 screwing the taxpayer while Obama rides the animal, Pelosi hits the animal with her whip, and the inserting organ looks like Geithner. It's too vulgar, but it's the only picture that would rightly depict what's happened to our democracy. Yes, I'm a coward to post it anonymously.

#2 is effectively what's happening. It's almost the equivalent of going the solo reconciliation route that would have only required 50+1 votes (although all non-budgetary items would have been out of order in such a procedure).

But #1 is also in play. Why? For the same reason that #2 is true here.

The Democrats have finally checkmated the GOP on this last phase of passing the bill. By doing it this way, the ping-pong approach without a reconciliation committee, the Dems have eliminated about 2 dozen procedural delaying tactics the GOP was certain to use. So it's a brute force, Dems 'having their way with' them, that I'm sure the GOP regards as bestial rape.

But as Joe remarks, doing it this way means a violation of some of the transparency pledges, which screws the Dem and Obama brands somewhat more than they've already been screwed over (often by themselves without help from the GOP, I agree).

In the end (haha), the recalcitrant Dems plus the traitor independent have screwed the Democrat effort here as much as the GOP has, so none of the pictures capture the essence of what has transpired.

(Nice pairing with Dali there. I think he might have approved.)

I'm a #5.
Has anybody ever seen Salvadore Dali and Jerry Colonna in the same room at the same time.

They're in the minority, but they still control the limits of what can be done.

I think number 3 - the "Demopublican" - best illustrates the current state of the two-party duopoly ruining our nation.

Definitely #3.

Believe it or not, I still tend to see things in a #1 fashion, if only because the politicians I still like are all Democrats, and I feel that there would be more "good ones" out there if the corporate zeitgeist allowed.

But the closest approximation of my current weltanschauung is image 4. The situation is definitely alienating, surreal and malefic.

Number 3 it is. This "health care" bill is exactly what RahmBama wanted. Even Russ Feingold admits as much.

We are now a people ruled by a government that does its best to look after...corporations. Demopublican or Republicrat. It's hard to tell 'em apart aside from some wedge issues at the margins (no issues that either party ever intends to actually deliver on) designed to divide us and get our votes so that the party we vote for can get its turn at divvying up the spoils.

Hope and change? Not so much.

I'll go with 3, although the 2 behinds of both animals would have been more accurate.
