Ten strange things about the crotch-bomber story -- and number 10 is a doozy

(ADDED NOTE: I now see the big problem with this post -- it's a long piece and the original research comes at the end. That bit of original research is, I think, important stuff. So if you're pressed for time, scroll down to the words "The ICTS mystery." You'll see that phrase in boldface mid-way through point ten. Can't miss it.)

Let's start the New Year paranoid.

I've tried to avoid writing about the Nigerian wanna-be terrorist Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab (known to his family as Farouk), the 23 year-old Islamic lonelyheart whose abortive effort to blow up Northwest flight 253 on Christmas Day ended with an intact jet and a charred genital region. The lesson: If you sew PETN into your underwear, you may put a damper on your sex life. Not that the virginal Farouk had one.

Correspondents seem to expect me to come up with a radical new conspiracy theory to explain this incident. Alas, I don't have such a theory. The best I can offer is a summary of some of the unconventional claims which have popped up in various news and blog articles. If you are the kind of nitwit who presumes that mentioning an odd claim automatically equals acceptance and approval of such a claim, please dive head-first into a vat of fire ants.

Oddity 1: Did Farouk have a passport? The initial reports said that he did not. We heard that he had boarded the Amsterdam-to-Detroit flight by impersonating a refugee from Sudan.

Later, we were told that he did have a passport: See here for a picture of the thing. But if he did have a passport, the following report becomes doubly inexplicable...

Oddity 2: Who was that well-dressed accomplice? Kurt and Lori Haskell, of Newport MI, were on the flight. At the boarding gate in Amsterdam, they saw Farouk arrive in the company of an as-yet unidentified man.
While Mutallab was poorly dressed, his friend was dressed in an expensive suit, Haskell said. He says the suited man asked ticket agents whether Mutallab could board without a passport. “The guy said, 'He's from Sudan and we do this all the time.'”

Mutallab is Nigerian. Haskell believes the man may have been trying to garner sympathy for Mutallab's lack of documents by portraying him as a Sudanese refugee.

The ticket agent referred Mutallab and his companion to her manager down the hall, and Haskell didn't see Mutallab again until after he allegedly tried to detonate an explosive on the plane.
The "he-had-a-passport-all-along" reports did not come out until after the Haskell account hit the headlines. The sighting of an accomplice was thus effectively discredited. As CBS puts it:
But the Dutch counter-terrorism unit's investigation into Abdulmutallab's passport pokes holes in the theory that the alleged bomber had help evading security.
Note that CBS suddenly places us in the realm of "theory," as opposed to eyewitness testimony.

Note as well that the Washington Times (linked above) saw fit to mention the "impersonating-a-Sudanese" story without mentioning Haskell's "accomplice" story -- even though the Haskells, as far as I can see, were the original source for the "Sudanese" bit.

Or were they?

Oddity 3: Security videos. Kurt Haskell has asked the FBI about any security videos which would confirm his story, but the FBI has refused to answer. These days, it would be silly to believe that Farouk was not photographed at the airport.

Oddity 4: Were there Aftrican helpers?
This story from an African news journal contains a noteworthy paragraph:
Upon arrival in Lagos, he changed that ticket and boarded a flight to Detroit via Amsterdam. Although Nigerian authorities claimed he "sneaked into Nigeria” on Christmas Eve to board the KLM flight to Amsterdam, Saharareporter sources said Farouk had been around Lagos before and after he went to Ghana, for some reason, to purchase the ticket that he later changed in Lagos. It would appear that Nigerian security officials are covering up privileged people that may have provided material support to Umar as he prepared to depart for the US, although it is conceivable they may have helped him without knowing his mission.
"Privileged people"? As Jerry Seinfeld used to say: "Who are these people?"

Incidentally, this same report also mentions that Farouk may have a sister in New York, that he was in Lagos for his father's retirement party (even though other reports say that he was estranged from his family), and that the formerly loquacious paterfamilias has now ordered all family members not to talk to the media.

Oddity 5: What does it take to get on the "no fly" list?
Farouk's father, a very prominent banker in Nigeria, became concerned about his son's religious extremism and warned the American embassy. It seems odd for a father to rat out his son. And why did Farouk attend Dad's retirement party if Dad was ratting him out?

Farouk spent time in Yemen, where he seems to have associated with Al Qaeda militants. The CIA apparently knew that someone called "the Nigerian" was in contact with Al Qaeda in that country. In May, Farouk was blocked from re-entry into Britain.

Let's repeat that: He was blocked from re-entry into Britain.

Farouk appeared on the Terrorist Identities Datamart Environment database, which is compiled by the good folks at the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center. That database contains about half-a-million names.

Yet he was not placed on the "no fly" list.

So who has appeared on the list? ACLU attorney David Fathi, David Nelson of Ozzie and Harriet fame, Army colonel and Democratic political candidate Robert J. Johnson, congressman John Lewis (also a Democrat), Nelson Mandela and Ted Kennedy. In 2007, Princeton professor Walter F. Murphy could not board an airliner; he was told that he was placed on the list because he had given speeches critical of George W. Bush.

I guess Farouk just didn't have what it takes.

Oddity 6: Is there an Al Qaeda connection? The CIA says that Farouk was "the Nigerian" who communicated with Al Qaeda in Yemen. He has confessed to training with an Al Qaeda bomb-maker. Yet the Obama administration downplays all talk of a conspiracy. Moreover:
A Yemini-based Al Qaeda group has claimed responsibility for the attack, praising Abudulmutallab's attempt to blow up Flight 253 with about 3 ounces of the powerful explosive PETN stashed inside a pair of specially-made underwear, reports CBS News chief investigative correspondent Armen Keteyian.
Responding to this report, the CIA dropped a rather interesting piece of information:
"We learned of him in November, when his father came to the U.S. embassy in Nigeria and sought help in finding him. We did not have his name before then," said Paul Gimigliano, a CIA spokesman.
The father's warning was taken with sufficient seriousness to be passed along to the CIA. And the CIA already knew of a person called "the Nigerian" who was palling around with Al Qaeda types in Yemen. So the question is: Did the the CIA connect Farouk to "the Nigerian" in November? The careful wording of Gimigliano's statement leaves the possibility wide open.

For what it is worth, Chris Wallace of Fox News says that the CIA had been tracking Farouk since August. Yet he didn't make the "no fly" list.

In an "official" statement, an Al Qaeda group claimed responsibility for the attack, which was carried out (supposedly) in retaliation for bombing raids on an Al Qaeda base in Yemen. As "Casual Observer" at FDL notes, those bombing raids took place on December 17 and 24. However:
Harold Demuren, the head of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, says Abdulmutallab’s ticket came from a KLM office in Accra, Ghana. Demuren said Monday that Abdulmutallab bought the $2,831 round-trip ticket from Lagos, Nigeria, to Detroit via Amsterdam on Dec. 16.
The chronology doesn't work.

Oddity 7: Instant mythology. In right-wingerland, a bogus story is making the rounds. According to this yarn, Farouk had two Al Qaeda helpers identified as Gitmo detainees released into the custody of Saudi Arabia for rehabilitation.
You read that right. They were sent to Saudi Arabia to attend a Jihad rehabilitation center where they were given paint and crayons. Isn’t that nice!
And the propaganda just never stops...

Oddity 8: Is there a tape? Previously, we mentioned the airport security videos which may or may not support the Haskell narrative. But we also have persuasive accounts of an amateur videotape taken within the aircraft itself during the incident. This report comes from passenger Patricia Keepman, who sat roughly 20 rows behind Farouk:
Her daughter said that ahead of them was a man who videotaped the entire flight, including the attempted detonation.

"He sat up and videotaped the entire thing, very calmly," said Patricia. "We do know that the FBI is looking for him intensely. Since then, we've heard nothing about it."
The entire flight? Who does that?

In the midst of passengers trying to subdue Abdulmutallab and flight attendants working to put out the fire, Taylor says he looked behind him and saw a man filming the situation about two to five rows back.

"I looked behind me as the flight attendant ran through, and I looked and there was a guy with a camera," Taylor says.

Taylor says he notified the FBI of what he saw, in hopes of helping them to obtain footage of the foiled attack.

"There’s definitely footage from the time it was mission critical, to the time they hauled (Abdulmutallab) to the front," Taylor says. "I told them 100 percent there was a guy filming."
Taylor and Keepman place the videographer in the same location. Their accounts are congruent and convincing.

So why haven't we seen the tape? Why haven't we heard from the person who did the filming?

A Dutch film-maker named Jasper Schuringa was on the flight, but he did no filming. In fact, he helped to subdue the crotch-bomber.

Oddity 9: Travel arrangements.
Farouk came from a well-off family, but he had been estranged from his father for some time -- or so says the father. So where did he get the cash for his travels? If his family had shut off the spigot, who provided his egg-and-cheese money? We can trace him going back and forth to the UK, Ghana, Yemen, Amsterdam and the U.S. He paid for the final journey in cash -- which should have been a tip-off.

Oddly enough, he bought a round-trip ticket -- an odd choice for a man who planned to blow up his flight.

The flight went from Lagos, Nigeria to Amsterdam. Why did he purchase the ticket in Ghana?

No-one has attempted to answer an obvious question: Where did he put on the PETN-laden underwear -- Ghana or Lagos or Amsterdam? If Amsterdam, who was his contact? (I very much doubt that PETN is as easy to obtain as pot is in Amsterdam.)

Oddity 10: The inevitable Israeli connection.
Well, you knew that a link of some sort had to crop up sooner or later. We can't have a conspiracy theory round-up without mentioning the Israeli security services.

Our reader b, in a comment appended to a previous post, found grounds for suspicion in the fact that Farouk boarded the jet -- with help from a well-attired Indian, or so we're told -- at Schiphol airport.
Guess whose main European HQ is based there!

I typed that before I confirmed who runs security there. Not that that's a surprise.
The reference goes to the Israelis. A Google query on "Schiphol Mossad" will turn up a number of interesting stories.

Before proceeding, perhaps we should review an interesting blast from the past, which reveals a little-known aspect of the 2001 "shoe bomber" incident. The following example of a "controlled" security breach may be relevant to the more recent Christmas attack:
Six months prior to Reid's near shoe bombing of American Airlines flight 63 from Paris to Miami in December 2001, while memories of 9/11 were still fresh in everyone's mind, Reid attempted to board an El Al flight from Schiphol to Tel Aviv. Reid was taken aside by El Al security and identified as a terrorist suspect. Reid paid for a one-way ticket with cash and would not reveal what he planned to do in Israel. However, rather than turning Reid into Dutch security for further action, he was allowed to board the El Al flight by Israel's Shin Bet security so his movements during his five days in Israel could be monitored. Six months later, Reid attempted to ignite his shoe on the flight from Paris to Miami. Israel had not informed British, American, or any other security agency of the concerns about Reid. Reid's aunt, Claudette Lewis who raised Reid in south London, was quoted as saying she believed her nephew had been "brainwashed."

Reid later said El Al failed to detect that he had explosives in his shoes on the flight to Tel Aviv, an amazing revelation considering the Israeli airline's tight security.

The ICTS mystery

When Reid went on his next fateful trip -- the one where he tried to light his shoe -- he passed through a check from an Israeli-owned security service called ICTS. ICTS employs a large number of Shin Bet veterans and has strong links to Mossad.

All of which brings us back to Farouk and the Christmas event.

Most of the conspiracy-oriented websites are now claiming that ICTS ran security at Schiphol -- for example, see here. ICTS has offered this strong denial:
Following the terrorist attack on DL/NW Flight 253 on 25 December 2009 , there have been incorrect reports linking ICTS Europe to the event.

We would like to make it clear that ICTS Europe Holdings B.V. is not connected in any way to the mentioned events. ICTS Europe does not provide any security services, nor any other services, whether directly or indirectly, at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and is not connected in any way to any of the companies that provide security services at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.
The ICTS disclaimer offers a startling contrast to this PR announcement from January 14:
ICTS International N.V. (Nasdaq: ICTS) announced today that it has formed a partnership arrangement with ICTS Europe Holdings BV, an unaffiliated party, to provide security services at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in The Netherlands. The partnership named ICTS Netherlands Airport Services has been awarded two contracts having an aggregate value of $15,000,000 Euros a year or annually. The contracts are for three years and relate to two sections of the airport to provide security, employees, guards and control in the airport, establishing a central check point and security arrangements for airport employees and other related services.
And then we have this announcement (pdf) from 2008:
CTSN Netherlands, ICTS Europe subsidiary in The Netherlands, was awarded a new contract with OpenSkies airline, British Airways’ premium carrier subsidiary, to provide High risk security operation services supported by technology at Schiphol Airport.
Hm. Looks to me like we've caught ICTS in a clear fabrication. Their denial of involvement with Schiphol should be rated C for chutzpah.

Apparently, ICTS is attempting to rely on an old dodge: It was not ICTS but a subsidiary firm which did business at Schiphol. On the same company website where ICTS claimed to have nothing to do with Schipol, we read this:

Incidentally, ICTS (through another subsidiary, named Huntleigh) also runs the security at Detroit airport.

And who runs security at the airport at Lagos International Airport, a.k.a. Murtala Muhammed International Airport, a.k.a. LOS? This is where Farouk flew out to Schiphol -- presumably wearing, even then, his PETN briefs. (Oddly, this airport was modeled after Schiphol.) Farouk went through two checks; KLM (the carrier) provided the second check, but I don't know who conducted the first one. Still another ICTS subsidiary -- MUSC -- provides maritime security services for the Nigerian government. Nigeria restored relations with Israel in 1992, after a 19 year break; some accounts hold that the two governments are now quite close.

I am not attempting to provide a simple one-size-fits-all conspiracy theory to explain all of these anomalies. Let me repeat: I do not have such a theory. Undoubtedly, many of these oddities will soon be explained.

Still, at present, we have some reasonable questions that demand answers. In particular, I'd like to know why ICTS lied. If the Israeli-run security firm had not denied the undeniable, the stories about that company would have stayed mired within the murky realms of the conspiracy blogs.

Oh, no doubt there is an inevitable "Israeli" connection. There can be no conspiracy theory that does not ultimately lead to "Evil Jew Bankers Secretly Rule the World."

I am interested in that bogus Gitmo angle. It sounded ridiculous to me from the start. But, Joseph, you link only to the bogus story, not the debunking. Do you have a link to where this is shown to be bogus? Thanks.

I'm shocked that there's a possible accomplice who videotaped the entire thing and he's not been located to be questioned. Whether it's a "conspiracy" or just keystone cops as usual, it's inexcusable.

Most transactions are made with cash when one steps outside developed countries, and buying an air ticket with cash is not an extraordinary event, but common and desirable. Most air tickets are bought through small agents who prefer cash and will accept dollars because air tickets are commonly priced in dollars.

Perhaps someone was videotaping the whole event because this was supposed to be a "dry-run", but no one told the bomber the real plan or that he would be taking the fall (and the boo-boos) when the bomb was less than successful in taking down the plane.
Or, another scenario, perhaps the videographer was a companion to the "hero" who tackled the bomber. Perhaps they are saving their footage for a later documentary.
But then again, why wouldn't security have looked through everyone's on-board luggage to find the film afer they were informed of its existence.

'Farouk' was probably the spawn of a minor wife of his father. The marriage practices of the Northern tribes would make a Mormon green with envy. Spawn of minor wives don't get near the attention of the First wife and his estrangement would be noted only by himself.

I can see a round trip ticket, a one way with all his other suspicious 'baggage' would be an instant tip off.

Within days of my last report on Ehud Barak and 9-11, an American passenger plane almost exploded in mid-air. The terrorist was one of 14,500 select people on international airport computers as a flight risk, yet the airport screeners missed him and allowed him onto the plane without even a passport...

ICTS was established in 1982 and today employs 11,000 security personnel in 22 countries. Many airports and airlines seek the Israeli expertise and opt for ICTS to provide security for passengers and employees.

According to Rom Langer, the director of the company, who granted Channel 2 News an interview on motzei shabbos, the terrorist did undergo a security inspection in Amsterdam, but he does not have the information pertaining to the inspection.

Consider this. The CIA had wind of a Nigerian terror suspect. Farouk bought his ticket in Ghana because he didn't want to be associated with Nigeria. Then, when he showed up at the airport he was represented as Sudanese to hide his Nigerian background. He would not want to present a Nigerian passport. The man who helped him at the airport was needed because Farouk wasn't carrying his passport.

The Haskells and others are credible witnesses. Officials are keeping quiet now because of an ongoing international investigation. Information will be released at a later time.

Ok, what I think is the real issue in this whole ordeal. Who pays for the subsequent sex change operations? Now it is completely necessary, right? Are we the taxpayers of the US on the hook for this? Good sex changes aren't cheap. There is facial feminizing surgery, although that boy is kind of feminine looking already, a trachea shave, probably need to get his larynx resized, needs hormones now, needs a boob job. Hmmm. I think this is going to be in the neighborhood of 100 grand. Maybe we can just send him to Thailand and get done on the cheap.

In light of the fact that ICTS International let Richard Reid board American Airlines flight to U.S. from Paris only 6 months after their role in the 9/11 Logan Boston Airport WTC fiasco,and now they were the Amsterdam Schiphol Airport 'security' that allowed the Nigerian to board to U.S.,they should do us all the favor of getting out of the stock fraud and 'security' business . They also have a reputation of harrassing and intimidating passengers who for whatever reason rub them the wrong way as well.But apparently that doesn't apply to real terrorist suspects,(Arab or otherwise), and they themselves should have been suspect for negligent homicide after 9/11 as well.

This same group of people have also been involved with another bankrupt company, Pioneer Commercial Funding Corp (see www.secinfo.com/dUScp.4f893.htm). As examples of the links between the two, M. Albert Nissim was president of Pioneer and had served as president of ICTS. Boaz Harel, Ezra's brother, had served as Chairman of the Board of Pioneer and Chairman of ICTS USA, an indirect subsidiary of Leedan International Holdings B.V.

It has been proposed that a possible motivation for the WTC attack was to destroy all the financial records contained inside. There was probably tons of such evidence of fraud...If those associated with ICTS had also been involved in financial fraud such as this..they would have had good motivation to allow the terrorist attack to take place. Logan International, where ICTS has security, was the site where both planes departed that eventually hit the WTC.The terrorists that got by them..

Re: number 7, it is far from simply right wing rumor, as Rachel Maddow discussed the entirely mainstream media ABC News report it was based upon late last week on her eponymous show.

In the meantime ABC News has updated their original report to reflect further information that one of those two men had been reported out of Yemen before this time frame (forget now, deported to or jailed in Saudi Arabia or something), but it continues to stand by its original reporting, although it now applies to just one, not two, Gitmo releasees.

While it's obvious the poster replying above concerning both ICTS and Securacom knows this, and I'm sure you do as well, Joe, it might benefit others reading this to be informed or reminded that ICTS (in one or more of its corporate forms) was also the security firm at the WTC complex, Logan Air Field, Newark Airport on 9/11/01, AND at the London tube bombings on 7/7.

So don't be so sure about airport cameras picking up this action ahead of boarding, or that whatever tapes may have been made will prove to exist later. The London situation had 2 security cameras per train car; both failed, it is said. Supposedly, they had never installed cameras in Logan, and while its understandable that on-site surveilance cameras and their recording devices were destroyed at the WTC event, it isn't obvious why they didn't have off-site backups.

I think we've already seen the desired result from this escapade, which was Obama's ratcheting up attention to and likely additional violence in the oil-rich country of Yemen in today's radio address.

My take on the physical setup is that it couldn't possibly have worked as described, and what allegedly happened is not consistent with that story. You've got to mix the powder with that liquid, but the syringe method only offers the appearance of that capability (and for all we know, it was STILL strapped to his leg). What was the object supposedly on fire? The syringe?

I think there was probably a small pda or phone using a lithium battery which suffered a pre-set mini-explosion/fire, and that was the object on fire, which the director got out of the man's hands.

In yet another twist of life imitating art, that director has said this scenario was almost the same as a screenplay he'd written sometime ago, wherein somebody AT THAT VERY AIRPORT with an explosive device tried to detonate it, but it failed.

Odd, just as we are also informed that security teams in London were doing an exercise of exactly that kind of tube bombings in the exact locations they occurred that day, and one of the explosions occurred fairly directly at the location of the ICTS HQs.

Perhaps someone ELSE is trying to discredit ICTS, or else they are doing a bang up job (excuse the pun) themselves.

Doesn't make any difference who owns the security outfit because it is probably staffed with locals that went through some sort of training session by an Israeli team that took off soon as it was done. Just like any other franchise.

Can the author of this blog article read?

ICTS did not provide security for Northwest Airlines Flight 253. They provide security for--and I quote--"...OpenSkies airline, British Airways’ premium carrier subsidiary."

What is another mystery to me is the fact that while these airlines have had so much experience with the tragic failures of ICTS they continue to associate with them rather than denouncing them.(As you can see American Airlines has stuck with them from the 9/11 WTC tragedy to the Richard Reid 'shoe bomber' incident and beyond and has never questioned their competence or stock frauds.)

I'm not making this up. Here's the report in the Times of London.

The proposed change to the law would give the Attorney General the authority to block the arrest of Israeli politicians but not Nazi war criminals.

What dishonest crap this is! The whole point is that a warrant is issued on the basis of prima facie evidence, and the decision on whether or not someone is guilty is reached at something called a "trial". Everyone accused of being an Israeli war criminal, a Nazi war criminal, or any other kind of war criminal, is assumed innocent until proven guilty. It's the war criminal bit that's the crime, geddit? That's what has to be proved. There's also a standard of prima facie evidence that applies before a warrant can be issued. Against anyone. Doesn't matter who they are or where they come from. This is not difficult stuff.

The idea that every Israeli politician must always be considered by an English court to be innocent of committing war crimes but certain non-Israelis must be decided to be war criminals before they've even been tried is.....well, you finish the sentence.

And what if some war criminals happen to be in the Israeli government, your ladyship? What then?

And what if the Attorney General decides that some warrants against Israeli officials are justified? We're not supposed to ask that, are we? Because the idea is that she never would do such a thing. No matter what. Not even after 100 Gazas. In short, the English AG should work for Israel in these matters rather than for Britain.

Leave the fucking courts alone!

South Africa deports airline official after investigation

South Africa deported an Israeli airline official last week following allegations that Israel’s secret police, the Shin Bet, had infiltrated Johannesburg international airport in an effort to gather information on South African citizens, particularly black and Muslim travellers.
The move by the South African government followed an investigation by local TV showing an undercover reporter being illegally interrogated by an official with El Al, Israel’s national carrier, in a public area of Johannesburg’s OR Tambo airport.
The programme also featured testimony from Jonathan Garb, a former El Al guard, who claimed that the airline company had been a front for the Shin Bet in South Africa for many years.
Of the footage of the undercover reporter’s questioning, he commented: “Here is a secret service operating above the law in South Africa. We pull the wool over everyone’s eyes. We do exactly what we want. The local authorities do not know what we are doing.”...

Mr Garb’s accusations have been supported by an investigation by the regulator for South Africa’s private security industries....

A hidden camera captured an El Al official in the departure hall claiming to be from “airport security” and demanding that the undercover reporter hand over his passport or ID as part of “airport regulations”. When the reporter protested that he was not flying but waiting for a friend, El Al’s security manager, identified as Golan Rice, arrived to interrogate him further...
Mr Garb commented on the show: “What we are trained is to look for the immediate threat – the Muslim guy.....'
Mr Garb and two other fired workers have told the South African media that Shin Bet agents routinely detain Muslim and black passengers, a claim that has ignited controversy in a society still suffering with the legacy of decades of apartheid rule.....



A South African Jew, he said he was recruited 19 years ago by the Shin Bet. “We were trained at a secret camp [in Israel] where they train Israeli special forces and they train you how to use handguns, submachine guns and in unarmed combat.”..

Mr Garb claimed to have profiled 40,000 people for Israel over the past 20 years, including recently Virginia Tilley, a Middle East expert who is the chief researcher at South Africa’s Human Sciences Research Council. The think tank recently published a report accusing Israel of apartheid and colonialism in the Palestinian territories.
“The decision was she should be checked in the harshest way because of her connections,” Mr Garb said....

Also I believe the article is confused in saying ICTS stock shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange because they were on the pink sheets for long time after 911 and then were the reason for NASDAQ doing a press release to say ICTS was removed from NASDAQ shortly after I was complaining about them again on internet and offshorebusiness.com.Since Dubai has taken over much of NASDAQ and SEC Chair Mary Schapiro,colleague of Bernie Madoff, appears to have been invlolved in allowed Dubai's Sheikh Maktoum to buy over 20% of NASDAQ when at NASD-FINRA.I'm most surprised that Israeli english news is covering it all all not and surprised that U.S.media is keeping quiet and censoring news and investigation as usual.

The Israeli firm ICTS International (not to be confused with ICTS Europe, which is a different company), and two of its subsidiaries are at the crux of an international investigation in recent days, as experts try to pinpoint the reasons for the security failure that enabled Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab to board Northwest flight 253 and attempt to set alight explosives hidden in his underwear.

A Haaretz investigation has learned that the security officers and their supervisor should have suspected the passenger, even without having early intelligence available to them.

At this time, ICTS and the Dutch security firm G4S are hurling recriminations at each other, as are the authorities at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, the Federal Aviation Authority and U.S. intelligence officials......


The ICTS daughter company, I-SEC, has another daughter company - called PI (Pro-Check International). The firms provide security services to airports: consultation, instruction, training, inspection and supervision.

Two decades ago, ICTS adopted the system used in Israel, namely of profiling and assessing the degree to which a passenger is a potential threat on the basis of a number indicators (including age, name, origin and behavior during questioning). At the same time, a decade ago, the company developed a technological system called APS (Advanced Passenger Screening).

This system is based on a computerized algorithm, and is fed passenger information from the airline company. The system was offered to the Israel Airports Authority and the Shin Bet in the past, but rejected. According to the company's Web site, most of the large airlines in the United States use the system.

However - in real time - the system of ICTS failed........the security supervisor representing I-SEC and PI allowed him to get on the flight.

ICTS was established in 1982 by former members of the Shin Bet and El Al security. Menachem Atzmon, who has been chairman of the board of directors since 2004, holds the controlling shares in the firm.

The ICTS headquarters are in the Netherlands and the company is traded in the New York Stock Exchange. Some senior managers are Israeli, including the joint managing director Ran Langer.

Another important figure is Doron Zicher, general manager of I-SEC. Zicher has been in charge of operations in the Netherlands for more than two decades and has served as adviser to the Dutch Justice Ministry, which is responsible for setting guidelines for airport security.

The company prides itself on employing 1,300 persons and providing security services to airports in 11 countries including France, Britain, Spain, Hungary, Romania and Russia.

I'm not conspiracy theorist but I'm not a deluded "the U.S. government's perfect" person either.

And a number of conspiracy theories have been PROVEN to be true, with one U.S. president even publicly apologising.

But whilst you are so silling to believe there MUST be some innocent explanation whilst the evidence is staring you in the face, the U.S. government, the CIA, and the FBI, can carry on doing pretty much what they want without consequence.

You think the TSA perverts are bad now? Just wait for the anal probes. Funny? Maybe. A stronge possibility? Definitely yes. After all, the more you let them get away with, the more you make excuses for them, the futher they can go. And if an when American citizens finally get some balls and actually try to stop them, it'll be too late.

Government officials (and partners) can already grope you in the name of "security". They've already been involved in trying to attack U.S. citizens in order to blame Cuba (see the now-unclassified documents) and in actually murdering U.S. citizens in the twin towers attacks (though judging from your desire to make excuses, you probably still hold the delusional belief that "it was dem terrorists" despite the mountains of evidence), you think they're going to have the slightest problem with anal probes?

Just wait. If you guys don't grow some balls soon, they'll start. Mark my words.
