We were told that Obama would be the new JFK. He isn't. Nevertheless, our society seems to be heading back toward the early 60s...
* A judge in Louisiana named Keith Bardwell has refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple, citing his (alleged) concern for the children. The Supreme Court ruled in 1963 that interracial marriages are always legal.
* Meghan McCain, daughter of Senator John McCain, used twitter to upload a picture of herself in a low-cut tank-top, displaying some quite impressive cleavage. Conservatives reacted as though they had never seen a tit before. After the nasally cerulean tut-tutters had firmly established that she had committed a sin far worse than that of any Wall Street banker, the younger McCain apologized. (The photo also shows her holding up a book about Andy Warhol. She should have apologized for that.)
* The Secretary of State scored Russia for infringements of freedom and human rights.
* Scientists are once again researching LSD for treatment of psychiatric disorders.
* The Beatles are topping the charts.
* Parents wonder if Where the Wild Things Are might be too scary for young children.
* Leading right-wingers want us to believe that the country's biggest problem is Communism.
At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised to hear people arguing about Quemoy and Matsu again...

About the only thing missing is the draft. And the prosperity. And kids who can write songs.
Greenwald has already taken Obama to task for hypocrisy on human rights. I'm sure he could do the same with Hill's speech and previous statements re Russia and China if he hasn't already.

I've noticed this trend as well. Which is not good, BTW, since the Sixties led us inevitably to the (shudder) Seventies.
