What the hell...?

This strange arrangement of roads -- yes, these are paths or lines on the ground -- can be found in the middle of nowhere, in the Ganzu province of China. The surrounding area features even more anomalies.

Soaring over this area in Google Earth is very strange. To the southwest, one can find an array of transformer towers that look a bit like Project HAARP. Further west, there are quasi-destroyed runways and a building with roof damage. Further west still, one can find a pattern similar to the one seen here, albeit fainter.

And the "Definite Western End to the Great Wall" is located to the south.

Obviously, this area has something to do with the military...but...

What the hell, man?

If you zoom in there are features of the terrain visible under the lines.
It looks as if they were painted on the landscape not graded roads. Since there is a similar pattern nearby and what appears to be air port runways between it could be targets for an optically guided weapon system with on board AI.

Discussed at some length here...

I have looked at Google maps of areas in the White Sands Missile Range where I know structure and roads once existed (since I once worked there), and they are "fuzzed" out, obviously by Google, probably at the request - or order - of the government.

Those white lines in this Chinese area look photoshopped. They are far too consistant in albido and intensity to have been actually painted on the ground. but for what reason, only the Chinese would know.

Maybe just to keep our intel guys hopping.

Another interestng point:

If you zoom out, particularily on the "airport runways", they all suddenly vanish, although the surrounding geological features, hills, river beds, dirt tracks, etc., do not.

Yes, one move outward and there is no sign of the lines that are obvious in the previous picture. Photoshopped - I would say. On top of that, it doesn't make any sense at all.

The images suggest to me a test range for experimental satellite weapons. The crazed road-map image looks like a calibration grid, where satellites can be set up or adjusted for accuracy against a ground-map, and where accuracy of the result can be ascertained.
The hexagonal lines on very rough terrain could only have been etched or burned from above, it's too perfect for anything else. This suggests a very high power laser type of tool which can burn rock. Probably of a military technology that is being hidden (as most of them are).
