Although prolonged exposure to Joe Biden causes my ears to bleed, I sucked it up and watched the debate. Well, okay, I took the homeopathic equivalent to Xanax and then watched the debate.
My primary impression (first word out of my mouth when I saw him, actually): Ouch. Biden looked grim. I'll give him credit for avoiding any obvious flubs, being generally articulate and getting in a couple of good zingers ("I call that the ultimate bridge to nowhere"). I'll also give him credit for using every angle he had to advance the Dem ticket, even mentioning his deceased wife and daughter, always a bitter sacrifice for any widower and/or parent of a lost child (just ask George Voinovich).
Still, I thought Palin did an unexpectedly solid job, and any Republican seeking to justify her vote will have an easier time doing that now. Biden may have won on content, but she beat his pants off in presentation.
Speculation about why Biden looked so flat and miserable is probably pointless for now, as I don't think any credible theories that could explain his countenance have surfaced. Maybe he's just upset about the economic armageddon. Maybe he just got some bad news of a personal nature. I'm not really blaming him for any upset feelings he may have (we all have a right to our emotions) but I can't deny I think it hurt Obama's chances.

Palin exceeded my expectations. Admittedly, I lowered my expectations after seeing her train wreck of an interview with Katie Couric, typically a friendly audience for the rightwing. I didn't get the impression Palin beat Biden on presentation. She outwinked him, for sure; though, that didn't appeal to me. Her down home colloquialisms didn't resonate with me either; they felt a tad ignorant. Speaking, she seemed downright robotic at times. She stuck to her talking points, no matter how much they stretched the truth; I didn't dig that, either.
That said, she hit her mark. I imagine she clinches the wingers who already love her. She likely pulls in some of the fence-sitters. Those on the left get plenty of ammo to continue to dislike her. Fact-checkers have a lot with which to work.
"she beat his pants off in presentation"
I count two, possibly three double-entendres, all within the space of seven words. I'm surprised at you, Jen!
You've got a dirty mind, Joseph.
Senator O'Biden (as Palin called him) may have lost the Bosnian-American vote for calling Bosnians 'Bosniacks'. He dissembled wonderfully about his Big Regret - neglecting so-called ideologies of SCOTUS nominees pre-Bork - and why he saved us from Bork, though it was Kennedy, and mostly Republican Specter who sent Bork packing; Biden was hoping no one still alive remembers that the Clarence Thomas hearings came after Bork's. I mean, he figures everyone is as ignorant of the past as Palin.
I may vote for someone, but please don't call it 'support'.

Funny you mention that O'Biden dragged his dead wife and child into it. Anything to win. Joan Walsh is whining about how Palin didn't break down in tears when he mentioned them. Walsh doesn't object to using a dead spouse and child as a campaign talking point. How tacky.
Oh, and I'm glad Biden made it clear that he and Obama don't differ very much on the LGBT community. There's a lot of self-described liberals who are under the impression that Obama/Biden support gay rights. Apparently they've never heard of McClurkin and Meeks, and that Obama was getting a hair-cut while a gay pride parade in his home-town was in full swing. Interestingly when I bring this up to them now they respond: "But McCain isn't your friend either!" Is that supposed to be an endorsement of Obama?
Mr. Cannon: Perhaps Mr. Biden looked grim because he was sending his son off to Iraq today. Perhaps you thought that Palin did well because, as your posts of the past year so amply prove, you have lost your analytical abilities and, therefore, you ability to be objective. I've written before to tell you how sad it has been for me to watch you go from an insightful blogger to a vengeful man, and, unfortunately, your latest post merely underscores that deterioration. I wish you re-found insight someday.
I let the heckler's comment through to clarify—for those who need it—that Joe and I are really NOT the same person. No, really. No resemblance at all. I'm a twenty-something female from California's Canada and Washington's Mexico, Joe is a...thirty-something male from L.A. We're both liberals who know who Humphrey Bogart is, but that's about as far as I'd take the parallel. I find it hilarious that anyone honestly believes that Joe would make up an extra persona for Cannonfire.
I also let the heckler speak because he does provide a non-conspiratorial explanation for why Biden looked physically ill to me last night. Heckler: thanks. I'm terribly sorry about Mr. Biden's son and hope he returns safe and sound to us ASAP.
Note re Biden's son off to war...He's a lawyer and the Attorney General of Delaware. I appreciate his service but I suspect he won't be out doing recon for IEDs any time soon.
Re Bosniaks---in the Balkans the Bosnians are knows as "Bosniac"--the c is softer in most pronunciations though. Most would get Joe's drift--that he's knows the joint.
1) Glad you let Anon 3:45 speak Jen-- since [I'm sure Cannon would agree from the IP Tracking] it's probably our Quebecois friend thrice banned by Joe (why do you think we have so many fake names and anons? I was 4 people in the past week). He, like I, have been reading Cannonfire for almost 4 years and once upon a time, he was a welcomed commentators (before calling me surreal and belittling me, JC once called me "a God"). As I've told Joe before, several of us do pass around the "not going to get published by joe" comments we make in emails, knowing that often, they wont be "let through" especially when talking about the shift in objectivity.
2 and on topic) "Biden may have won on content, but she beat his pants off in presentation."
Sure! [wink] Syle over substance! [wink] she's much more fun, what with 'white flags' over facts, and talking to my inner Joe 6-pack [flutter] and to all the hockey moms from her memorized* talking points [wink wink!]
*or did we just improve the devices and was she wired... the older cannonfire would have noticed her messed up speech patterns, very much in the vein of GWB saying "let me finish" to the man behind the wires back in the debates with Kerry
Bill Clinton is right; yallz choose your leaders by who you just seem to like, not by whom one can be assured will be proficient at his or her job.
Imagine this dour man, Biden, looking all serious as we face the biggest economic meltdown since the dirty thirties and sending his son off (sure that would be 'dragged out' by the calculating Biden, as Grand Tier says, and as opposed to Palin who would never politicize her family. Not her oxycontin son taking off for "Ayyyrak" or the Juneau daughter and shotgun husband) ...Imagine this guy as your veep, not being all winkey and not talking in hokum colloquialisms.
Would you want to drink a beer with him?? Nah, let's go with the presentation of Miss Congeniality ((and don't get all "hysterical" on me Jen, for sounding condescending on this woman, even though her timber is far more shrill than Hillary on her worst day, even though she uses it to her advantage, its not a gender thing, Palin ("and God bless her") is vile, but of course, that's because of the things she stands for, not her presentation))
Forget about Arnold Scaasi. One day, if you continue down this rout, the moderators will be Vanity Fair and the 'contestants' will be dressed in Heathertte and Rzepski.
Recently an insurance company nearly wind up....
A bank is nearly bankrupt......
How it affect you? Did you buy insurance? Did you buy mini note or bonds?
They bailout trouble finance company, but they will not bail out your credit card bills……You got no choice, but you can prevent similar things from happen again……
Who fault?
The top management of the Public listed company ( belong to "public" ) salary should be tied a portion of it to the shares price ( IPO or ave 5 years ).... so when the shares price drop, it don't just penalise the investors, but those who don't take care of the company.....If this rule is pass on, without any need of further regulation, all industries ( as long as it is public listed ) will be self regulated......because the top management will be concern about their own pay check……
Sign a petition to your favourite president candidate, congress member, House of representative again and ask for their views to comment on this, and what regulations they are going to raise for implementation.....If you agree on my point, please share with many people as possible....

I think everyone wishes Biden's son well. But I don't remember Obama supporters wishing Track Palin much luck as he was shipped off. Or at the very least offering his mother a virtual hug or even pretend sympathy.
I think his forehead hurt from the Botox shots.
TJ
Perhaps his mother in law's advanced stage of cancer - to which she died today - was on his mind?
Nah. He was just being dour.
Sheesh.
Doubtful this will post, due to the throttling of valid comments here.
no Grand Tier, we save our faux sympathy for the dead Iraqis. When did you start commenting here? Is there word spreading through the GOPsphere that this is a place for virtual GOPpers to come and pretend to be pissed off PUMAs? You reek.
And joe, thank you for not printing any rebuttals to this sick freak. And for letting him use your space to further the divide. You can be as pissed as you want to be but why let in the fauxRush's with their bullshit?? it demeans what you are trying to do. if i remember correctly you want to take back your party and get rid of donna and the bots. Grand Tier up there just wants the Democrats to dissappear forever. You're creating worse bedfellows than the old ones you despised back in the bulge and CD days
