Assessing the candidates

Blue Lyon has a column on the depressing choices in November. The piece reminds us of one often-overlooked candidate: Alan Keyes.

Yes, he's running for President. And as Blue Lyon notes, he's wrong on everything.

But PUMAs should consider voting for him anyways. After all, Keyes is the only Republican Obama has ever run against. Wouldn't it be cute if a sudden surge of Keyes-mania shaved off that extra point Obama desperately needs to win in key states?

I could never do it. I mean really. I'd have to shower from now until the end of time to get the stench off me.

What might it tell you, Joe, that your previously traditional fare, the post on the crashed planes in Venezuala, wound up getting zero comments?
The conclusion I would draw is that much of your old readership no longer bothers to check in, probably because they don't expect to find posts like that one anymore.
As for the reasons for my own reluctance about Obama, I don't see them reflected in your tirades. I'm of the opinion that you've become sadly misguided.

Hilarious idea! It would be poetic justice if his losing percentage just happens to be Keyes' vote. And as an added bonus, the Oborg couldn't call you a racist.

Hoarseface: This blog exists for my purposes, not yours. That's how every blog should be run. If there has been a readership change -- and an increase! -- it has been for the better. Not long ago, I used to ask myself every day: "Why am I DOING this?" I hated the people I was talking to.

Lala once told me that despising one's readers is part of the job of being a writer. What she didn't say is that it's the WORST part of the gig -- and life is easier for the writer who does not have to do it.

Hoarseface—just what are your problems with Obama, then? I tend to think Joseph has run the gamut with regard to Obama's lack of qualifications to serve. If there are other issues Joe hasn't touched on, I would like to read them.

My reluctance with Obama stems from the same place as my previous reluctance with Kerry and Gore - lack of progressive political stances. Which is what has led me to vote for Nader in the last two elections. However, Joe apparently didn't feel that someone's policies were a legitimate reason to vote for Nader in those elections, but running a smear campaign in a primary, and what he contends (I'm not arguing) is repeated, perhaps pathological lying (in a politician, no less!) is reason enough to vote for Alan Keyes.

Joe has posted quite a bit about Obama's far right leanings, Hoarse, especially with regard to what passes for Obama's economic policy perspective. Peruse the archives here for more on that topic. Or, you know, Google "Cannonfire," "Milton Friedman" and "Obama."
