How much does this comment scare you?

Jen returns...

"I'm confident we'll hold the White House in 2008."

Is this the desperate wish of a victim of Korsakoff's syndrome, or is Bush alluding to a far right plan to attempt a repeat of '04 in '08?

I remain marginally optimistic that the neo-cons and their enablers won't try for victory via systemic fraud again because I don't think they'll be able to get the mainstream media to spin an election "result" it can't sell. Despite my cynical belief that most of America remains totally ignorant about the damage Republicans have done to this country, even I don't think the public would find a scenario in which McCain beats either Obama or Clinton believable.

Still, they had him say it.  Which gave me pause.  So, well...this is a good book.

It doesn't scare me. If the election will be stolen again, it won't be anything we're not familiar with. Also, I don't think McCain (or anyone who's announced) will be The Candidate.

This is very hard for me to explain, but it's about the "60 Minutes" Alabama segment gap and how we're manipulated: Why are there so many conniption fits over the segment gap? The Alabama viewers have no access to any other sources? If it's so important for Alabamans to know the facts in the matter, if it's so important to the people who say it's a heinous miscarriage that borders on evil, why don't they knock on everyone's doors and inform them, or organize or something and pay canvassers to knock on doors and inform them? Why is there such apparent outrage? Respectfully, far more important 'stories' aren't presented anywhere on TV. It's like we're supposed to be grateful for a crumb once in a blue moon?

I'm scared about the effects taking place right now that are making TV ('MSM' or 'mainstream' are silly euphemisms for TV) the absolute authority for truth.

The MSM have become a juke box. The FCC wants to know what happened in Alabama - great, now the whole world will find out that the only info that counts in the US is TV info.

Interesting.

Post more about that.

Nah, not now, anyway. The intuition isn't even at the inchoate level yet. But it's not an original thought.

We're not exactly in denial, but no one can be sure that we haven't already lost the country/republic we used to have. Who can say with a straight face that any of the three branches isn't dangerously dysfunctional?Besides, Joseph will have a field day mocking my brains apart.

In what is possibly a statement in support of aitchd's comment, "I'm confident we'll hold the White House in 2008." could be another way of saying that some event will occur which enables boygeorge to declare martial law and cancel the elections.

remember, folks; both bush and rove insisted they'd hold onto congress in 06, so these flights of fantasy should not convince anyone, except the W.

also, the polls thus far are so wildly in favor of the dems (though one to one match-ups with mccain are relatively close right now) ON EVERY SINGLE ISSUE, so it will be interesting to see how things shape up closer to november.

meanwhile, also remember that they can't really swing an election unless the polls are really close. if there is a wide margin prior to election day, and mccain wins, it would just be too obvious.

hence rove's tempting us with the references of pre-election surprises. the problem is, i do believe those would most likely backfire in this climate.

we'll see. bottom line: bush is delusional. never ever forget that.

I'm still expecting a 1964-style Democratic landslide and a sweep in Congress.

Once again all the money in the world, as it were, is at stake, but also the possible criminal liability of the current POTUS et al. Smart money will run away from GOPs and flow to Dems. Everyone agrees this GOP disease is no way to live. Employers will want their employees to vote Dem, and the employees are just now learning about politics at the local level anyway.

Bush ain't bluffing, he's threatening: "Let us get to our helicopters, let us keep our guns and the money, you can have your election".

Charlie Black lobbies for United Tech. Corp. They are currently trying to buy Diebold. Black works for or worked for the McCain campaign. Maybe Bush knows what he is talking about. Perhaps you can look into this and let us know what you find out.
