Well, it's official...

The White House will direct the Justice Department NOT to prosecute any contempt of Congress rulings. And Congress will hold both Josh Bolten and Karl Rove in contempt. Which means that the WH really does want to narrow the possibilities down to one: Impeachment.

By the way, if you go to pseudo-Democratic Underground, guess who gets the blame for torture-tape-gate? You guessed it: The Democrats! They're nothing but a bunch of complicit war-lovers!

Odd -- I do recall Jane Harman promising investigations, and Harry Reid certainly seems pretty damned furious. But that's only their art and craftfulness, y'see. They really WANT torture.

It's early days, but I really think that the these two events are the events.

I read you often but have yet to ever comment--in fact, a little afraid to since you've beaten down the head of more than a few of your "fans"--but is this finally the palace coup--where dark forces take down an even darker administration-cum-criminal enterprise?

Ah well, Joe, looks like you're right again. The Democrats are going to somehow get splattered with the s**t from this one, whereas the Repubs will walk away, yet again, unmolested.

Of course, the screaming and howling at Democrats that's seen on DU, Smirking Chimp (remember when that USED to be an anti-Bush site? Now it's mostly howls about how the Dems suck), and others will ignore the guys at the top, with only the usual "Impeach them and it will all stop!" belief.

Look...I believe in impeachment too, but it is only step one in a multi-step process. And as things stand, Bush and Cheney will not be removed from office if impeachment occurs. It will not stop them, they will not resign; they have no shame at all and do not care. At best, hearings brought about by an impeachment procedure will shed light on a lot of things and may put out facts for the history books.

I bring this all up because I am sick and tired of the constant "Blame the Dems!" bulls**t. Yes, I would very much want answers and a chance to see these mugs pay for their crimes. But I live in the real world, where:

1--The majority of Americans are not liberal and both fear and hate a lot of progressive ideas, due to over thiry years of RW crap spewed from radio, television, and print.

2--The Repubs will NEVER hold Bush accountable. Never.

3--There simply are not enough Dems to actually impeach and remove Bush from office (or Cheney). The votes are simply not there. The numbers are not there.

4--Progressive purists absolutely love the circular firing squad approach.

I could go on, but I am tired, and I'm mad, and I just want common sense to come back, just for a little. It seems that only this site has a strong amount of that. Thanks, Joe, for letting me get this off my chest.
