Firefighters against Guiliani

This is interesting: "America's mayor" gets slammed by New York City firefighters. Rudy is in the lead for the Republican nomination right now, but I don't think he will hold that position. McCain is not well-liked, but he is all they've got.

....and McCain keeps getting slammed, and is about to get slammed even worse. rawstory is reporting on a nam vets group that is prepping to 'swiftboat' the ex-pow for turning commie then and now turning on his fellow vets.

rudy and mccain, all they got. sad. oh, but mitt and newt? sounds like a cartoon about a lizard and its sandflea sidekick. very sad.

they got...nothing!

Unfortunately, the firefighters dislike Rudy for all the wrong reasons (he ordered them off the 9/11 "pile").

His real sin was his egregious indifference to the health of the workers who toiled on that "pile" for months without respirators or protective clothing, and then brought the dust home to their families. Today, the illnesses related to the 9/11 "cleanup" are of epidemic proportions, and are crippling.

Raising this issue at the time -- it was obvious to anyone with eyes that these guys would become ill -- was so politically incorrect (the highest priority was to get Wall Street up and running) that Charles Schumer, NY's senior senator, let his daughter attend a high school in the area, directly across from a permanently stationed waste barge, without a peep (and which recently became an issue, as more health issues arise).

So while it's good the firefighters don't like Rudy, unfortunately it's for all the wrong reasons. If anything, he probably saved them from further illness, if inadvertently. And these are same guys who booed Hillary Clinton in Madison Square Garden -- forgetting that it's Democrats who brought decent wages and pensions, not the "tough-talking" Republicans much of the rank and file so admires.

The firefighters have several problems with Rudy's leadership. To begin with, the radio compatibility issue that was evident to city leadership as of the '93 WTC bombing was not fixed by Rudy, despite a many million dollar contract let out to do just that. Apparently, a political patronage situation, or to be more blunt, actual or near corruption, caused this problem to remain in the police vs. firefighter communications systems, and it led directly to the death of those firefighters who died in the WTC, because they couldn't be told to evacuate.

Besides that, the firefighters' trade journal of their premier national organization found the summary removal and disposal of WTC debris to be a 'half-baked farce of an investigation,' and therefore a politically ordered coverup.

(Yes, I know, some (JC) have claimed the debris was not so summarily removed and disposed of, but here I'm quoting the firefighters' journal editorial piece, and that was their opinion).

Guiliani is an adulterer who's been married three times, McCain is perceived to be a madman (not to mention unpalatable to social conservatives), and a fourth of the electorate claims that they flat out wouldn't vote for a Mormon. The Bush name is now so despised that Jeb, even if he were drafted, would get trounced. Newt, of course, has an appalling record of infidelities.

You gotta feel sorry for those Republicans who thought they had locked up a permanent majority rule.
