CSPAN recently made glancing reference to a bizarre rumor that Secretary of the Treasury Henry M. Paulson was arrested by German authorities on charges of money laundering. The tale traces back to this site, run by one Christopher Story.
Is he credible? Well, it turns out that Story also thinks that those devious Russkies faked the fall of Communism, just as they faked the Sino-Soviet split . Yep, he's an unreconstructed believer in the gospel according to crazy old Anatoly Golitsyn.
I don't think Paulson has anything to worry about. But whenever an oddity like this crops up, I always wonder who starts these rumors -- and why.
