Our "Most Corrupt State in the Union" contest is ongoing; scroll down two posts. But I would also like to open up a sub-category -- "State With the Most Under-Recognized Corruption." This is your chance to dish dirt on those bastards in Nebraska, Oregon, Pennsylvania...
Right now, the front-runners in our main contest seem to be Ohio and Florida. But what do you think about Nevada...?

Since you mention Pennsylvania...
It's not exactly heavy-duty corruption, but I live in a small town north of Philadelphia, and my kids tell me their friends say the town is full of mob influence -- Mafiosi up from Philly buying small local shops to run their money-laundering operations through, that sort of thing.
I have no idea if this is true, or if it's just small-town prejudice against people from the big city owning local businesses.
Well, since you mention PA, let's talk about how Dr. Cyril Wecht has been targeted here in Pittsburgh. Dr. Wecht is a world-renowed pathologist who has consulted on many famous cases, notably the JFK assassination and more recently, the JonBenet Ramsey case. He refused to take the Party Line in both cases, steadfastly clinging to the idea that the evidence should be followed - not the politicians. I've personally had the priviledge of meeting Dr. Wecht and attending a small seminar he gave on the JFK case. It was simply amazing, to say the least. Not incidentally, he has also often refused to support the police in cases where unreasonable force was evident.
...Oh, and I'm sure it's just a coincidence that Dr. Wecht is a lifelong and very outspoken Democrat .
So, now Dr. Wecht is under federal indictment on desperate, trumped-up charges. He is being targeted by the local republican Establishment, aided by US Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan. Buchanan is yet another Bush appointee wackadoo who was a staunch crusader for John Ashcroft's "war on porn." Everything is always a fucking War with these people. It appears that they just want to destroy Dr. Wecht and him financially and ruin his reputation. Fortunately, it's not working, but. He is fighting these bastards back.
And, Philly is pretty much assumed to be run by the mob - it's not that far from Atlantic City, after all. I don't know this for a fact and have never lived there, it just seems to be common knowledge.
So yes, PA is up right up there in corruption. And I say that after living in Florida for 35+ years.:)
