I finally figured out why Jerry Weller, the Republican congressman from Illinois, looks so creepy. One eye is higher than the other, a la Alfred E. Neuman.
Not that I'm in any position to judge a person by his looks. I do judge Weller by his record, which I don't like.
He has a strange obsession with Central America, having married the daughter of Guatemalan tyrant/religious nut Efrain Rios Montt. Why now learn that Weller has also purchased land in Nicaragua, although he did not disclose his assets to Congress, as the rules stipulate he ought.
His land holdings are tiny compared to the massive spreads in Paraguay held by the Bush and Moon dynasties. Still, take this revelation as further indication that the focus of skullduggery may return, one day soon, to Latin America.
An aura of spookiness surrounds Weller. Not only does he link up with Abramoff and the Cunningham scnadal, his father-in-law was installed as dictator by the CIA and Israeli intelligence.
In the current election cycle, he has held a substantial lead over his opponent, John Pavich, who seems a decent young fellow. To be fair, it should be noted that Pavich is pretty damned spooky in his own right -- as his website puts it, he's a former "CIA intelligence officer." Now there is some talk that Pavich has a fighting chance. I'd love to think so, but the fight itself hasn't much longer to play out.

I still can't get over Weller, no matter how hard I try. His CAFTA vote w/ Foley's are what passed the bill. Foley admits being against it but changin his vote upon a phonecall be Bush himself. Weller was the other deciding vote, himself being accused of a page scandal. It can't be coincedence, especially with Andrew Sullivan saying that Rove knew.
Blackmail is a horrible thing to waste....
