Say WHA'??

dr. elsewhere here

Ok. We all know the guy is just a complete dolt who has no earthly clue about the US Constititution, but did Bush really say THIS??
"Whatever your opinion of the outcome, all Americans can take pride in the example our democracy sets for the world by holding elections even in a time of war.” (my emphasis)
Has he fired his minders, too??

Daddy alert!

It's maybe a reach but is it a carefully crafted statement, designed to get Pelosi and Dean to say to themselves, "Maybe he IS off his nut and needs to be impeached".

Has there ever been a time in American history , in a war, when Americans did not vote??

Well, it's too well-constructed a sentence for him to have made it up by himself. Someone wrote it for him, right?

Yeah...I think it was carefully crafted since the Bush administration is all about rhetoric and not about facts. It was an attempt to make people think that elections are not held during times of war, which of course, they are.

Remember when toothpaste companies were saying, "There is no sugar in our brand of toothpaste"? But there is no sugar in any brand of toothpaste and never has been.

The White House is still writing speeches as though they are doing an advertising campaign. Why do they do that? Why does the Vatican use a big-time New York ad agency to put out its PR crap? It works...most of the time.

Has war been constitutionally declared? I didn't think so. Correct me if I am wrong.

I understand that it was a separation of powers deal that the Congress gets to declare war and that the Prez gets to wage it as commander-in-chief. Seems like the cart is before the horse (and has been, and not just for this administration). Do you think this will be an issue to take up now that the Democrats will be in power?

yup, all the above. carefully crafted, carefully placed, historically inaccurate, both in past wars and the non-war of now, yet purposeful in creating that important illusion (not delusion, note) that it could happen. and if it did, it would be unique, but ok.

for all those reasons, it is just SO crazy. but so typical.
