The Catholic vote

I just received the following from thecatholicalliance.org, which has never contacted me before. I don't know if these numbers are fully reliable, but they remain highly interesting.

*** EXIT POLL UPDATE *** 9:30 pm

A preliminary analysis of National Election Poll data by Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good shows a startling 47-point shift among Ohio Catholic voters from 2000, when these seats were last up for election, to 2006. Pennsylvania and Virginia also show dramatic shifts in Catholic vote to Democrats. The Iraq War and corruption, issues related to a concern for the common good, are being identified as the most important moral issues.

Ohio numbers mirror the beginning of a national trend among Catholic voters.

SUMMARY OF CATHOLIC VOTE SWING:

OH - 47 points
PA – 22 points
VA - 15 points
I always felt that Dems would be smart to drive a wedge between the Catholic voters and the evangelicals -- most of whom believe, in their hearts, that the Pope is going to Hell.
