"Remember the Eisenhower!"

A "strike group" led by the nuclear aircraft carrier Eisenhower is heading to the Persian Gulf today. Many observers presume that Bush plans to hit Iran. I think the strategy could be more devious.

As noted in earlier posts, the Iranians possess a new class of cruise missiles which can easily destroy any ship in the Gulf. I believe that the neocons are placing the Eisnhower in harm's way precisely because they know that sunken ships justify wars. Any number of covert tactics (faked signals intelligence, bogus information fed to Iranian agents) could lead the Iranians to believe that they are under attack and must hit first or be hit.

Would the necons sacrifice an aircraft carrier to get their war? In my opinion, yes.

Not only will that oil-rich nation be reduced to nuclear rubble, neocon ideology will experience a resurgence within the U.S. -- where the law now allows Bush to kidnap and torture all progressive activists and writers. Alas, the distraction of the pageboy scandal will keep most progressives from seeing the real danger.

The strike group includes a submarine, probably equipped with nuclear missiles, which will handle the response after the Eisenhower goes down. That's an apt name for the sacrificial ship: The general who led our crusade against Hitler represented a form of responsible Republicanism which the neocons have murdered.

If this prediction proves wrong -- well, thank god. That'll be the most satisfying plate of crow anyone ever ate.

A faithfull reader and commentator, "A. Magnus" has written the following email, posted to FMNN General Feedback:

"Do you like October suprises? Is there a big bang coming to hit the markets? If you believe that those in the know use insider information before major events then you might be interested on the HUGE number of October 6th put options for the big indexes. Check out the concentrated puts on the Diamonds DOW Trust (DIA):

Ditto for the S&P Depository Receipts (SPY):

And the NASDAQ (QQQQ):

Even the Market Vectors Gold Miners has significant puts for October 6th:

Make no mistake - something wicked this way comes, and the smart money has already taken preventative steps."

I think that answer should probably be,

Hell yes!

They've already demonstrated an ability to launch an illegal invasion and occupation based on their own manufactured "intelligence." They certainly wouldn't balk at sinking an old ship. I could even imagine a Gulf of Tokin scenario if the Iranians don't actually launch an attack. And frankly, I don't think the Iranians are that dumb.

The comment about the put options scares the bejesus out of me, any way to verify? The links didn't work for me, maybe it is a hoax-worth verifying for certain!

If anyone's interested, I checked out the "put" options on these market index stocks (though not using the supplied links).

For the uninitiated, a "put" is the right to sell a stock at a given price, during a limited time period (usually 1-3 months). You buy a "put" if you think the price is going down. A "call" is the reverse. It's an option to buy a stock at a given price. You buy calls if you think the stock price is going up.

It is true that there are far more Oct. 6 puts than calls on these market index stocks, which means many more people think these indices are going down, than up. However, these options expire on October 6. If the drop hasn't occurred by then, the puts are worthless to the owners.

The November 6 puts aren't anywhere as numerous, which means that between October 7 and November 6, people aren't betting in as large numbers (at this point) on big declines. Also bear in mind that after steep run-ups in the market (like we've had) people generally bet on "corrections" (downturns). Unfortunately, I haven't followed these market indexes, so it's hard to know what's "normal" and what isn't.

Make of it what you will.

Just to add to the prior post. The aircraft carrier is leaving Virginia on Oct. 3, so obviously it won't make it to the Persian Gulf by Oct. 6.

That deployment cannot account for the high number of Oct. 6 puts.

but neocons are still banking on the idea that people don't get it yet. Unfortunately more people DO get it now. Alot of parents get it for sure , worrying about junior getting called up. No soccer/security mom wants much more of this. My worry is .... the Republicans are obviously in distress as a party. Really and truly is someone directing the action EXACTLY the way they want it? Has Bush served his purpose to sway America to the radical left.... O let's hope that left simply means moderation~

Would the "secret government" of neo nazis sacrifice the World Trade Center to drag America into a bloody, treasury emptying, Constitution shredding, morality extinguishing, terror driven, Fuehrer creating, U.S. civil war engineering, religious crusade intoxicating, controlled demolition executing,, no win war erupting, charade? In my (learned) opinion..yes.

But V still stands for victory

Don't forget that the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff in 1962 made a recommendation to then Defense Secretary Robert McNamara. The plan was called, "Operation Northwoods". It recommended false-flag attacks on U.S. ships, military personnel and civilian targets in order to justify a military response against Cuba. Luckily, McNamara turned it down, but the mere thought that our military leaders would suggest such a course of action should chill all of us, even if it nearly 45 years ago.

At this point in time, these neocons will do anything. We must stay vigilant and be prepared to counter any propganda that leads us to another knee-jerk reaction and a lost election.

In order to win this election, they have put out the Foley and Macaca fires. It will probably take something big to divert attention this time.

I said this very thing in comments at Eschaton a week or so ago, and I still believe it is likely.

I would not underestimate this administration's desire to retain power under any circumstances.

Lives of American sailors and Iranian civilians mean nothing to them.

Like you, I sincerely hope I am wrong.

With the Foley scandal further increasing the odds of a democratic House majority, I think it's more likely now than ever that the Republicans will pull something deperate to maintain power. I don't think it involves the carrier group. Instead, I strongly encourage all Democratic incumbents and front-running hopefuls to stay away from personal aircraft and take their personal security very very seriously.

I believe that whatever the administration has planned for the carrier group won't happen until December because Air Force assets are preparing now for a larger than normal deployment of personnel to the Middle East at that time.

I have been tossing around the idea of a USS Liberty/Gulf of Tonkin staged attack since I heard of the Eisenhower strike group.

The Senate passed "The Iran Freedom and Support Act" and Bush is expected to sign it but I don't think Iran will be provoked to attack by this bullshit legislation.

False Flag seems to be the only way to go if they want to squeeze this into October.
