Red October Surprise?

dr. elsewhere here

So Karl has promised at least one October surprise, has he? Have any of you really considered what that might look like? I know, we each have our own private little nightmares, but his announcing this really doesn't make any sense. Somehow I just don't think he is quite stupid enough to proclaim such a thing if the surprise is a war. Hey, if it is, how the hell will he explain it?

"Oh, well, everyone knows it's good marketing to wait until the day before the vote to produce, say, a bin Laden tape. Or an attack that pulls everyone together for yet another invasion of yet another mid-eastern country."

Because, gosh, that plan has gone so well for us and everyone is just so tickled about it.

Really, whatever could he have meant by promising a surprise? Or rather, whatever could he have meant that would not come back to haunt him later as an obvious political plot?

Seems, well, ...odd.

Related to these questions, news from Spain may give us something like a clue.

Seems a year ago, the US captured in Pakistan a man with direct ties to the planning of 9/11, Spanish-born Mustafa Setmarian.

Seems this was reported in May, right after the US offered a $5 million bounty; his name has also been removed from the FBI's Most Wanted list.

Seems Amnesty International reports him as disappeared, and his wife claims he is being held in a secret CIA prison.

And it seems he sports a head of flaming red hair.

Seems...surprising?

Well, maybe the red hair part. The rest is just too ...predictable.

Rove coming out and announcing his game plan is just part of his pattern, he's always done that. I figured it was most likely a Diebold-type "surprise," as an Iranian "attack" on one of our war ships might actually turn more people against Bush than would help him.

But keep us posted, a last-minute "event" is the only thing that will provide plausible deniability for the 10% swings on election day.

the timing is just a little to, um, unnerving, eh?

When I typed "Cannonfire" into Google just now, the Crowley/Barnara Bush post (A POST WHICH WILL LIVE IN INFAMY!) was in the number two spot. Oddly, the main page used to be in the number one spot, even back in the days when only a few dozen visitors showed up each morning.

OK, how about: The Sadaam verdict is handed down, and he makes a speech telling everyone how he planned and paid for 9/11, and he says he hid all of his WMD in Iran, who in turn sold half of them to N. Korea. Oh, and Fitgerald comes forward and announces the indictments of several Democrats - Clinton among them.

On a more serious note, they have ALWAYS liked to act as if they know more than anyone else and that's why we have to listen up and shut up and do as we're told.

Still, now that I mention Clinton I wonder...
