On the stump (so to speak) in Arizona, Dubya endorsed Len Munsil, that state's Republican candidate for governor. Mistakenly calling him "Lee," the Preznint -- no doubt with a twinkle in his eye -- said "He's an attractive man."

That Alberto Moravia novel, "The Conformist", and the more famous film of the same name, may be more profound than one might have supposed.
In brief, the thesis goes, men who see themselves as "deviants" are drawn to facism and the repression of other kinds of "deviance" (i.e., anyone who questions authority or the goodness of the Fortune 500) as a way of atoning for their "sins" -- effectively repaying their debt to society (in their contorted eyes).
That explanation is probably too generous to Dubya -- he's just a spoiled self-intoxicated megalomaniac dry-drunk -- but it seems to have some resonance nonetheless.
Only look at these people -- what kind of miserable human being would blame George Soros or Bill Clinton for someone else's pedophilia? These guys are nuts -- or just plain sick in the head.
Could "The Conformist" be the operative narrative of our time? Seems improbable, but the more one looks at Republicans and their private conduct and public faces....
Joseph, you can still call me Gary.
