Privately, I told people that Brad Friedman's Emergency Paper Ballot idea was a lovely pipe dream. Now we learn that Barbara Boxer and Chris Dodd have introduced just such a bill in the Senate, and there is a move for a similar bill in the House. Outstanding!
What can you do? First, you can go here: http://tinyurl.com/ojd4r. That link leads you to a petition to create the legislation. Even though the bill now exists, the petition will help.
Second, contact your senators and congresspersons NOW (NOW NOW NOW) and tell them to support the CONFIDENCE IN VOTE ACT.
The bill makes paper an option, not a mandate. That's fine, or at least it's a great start. In the first place, polls indicate that the vast majority of people will choose paper if given the choice. Second, phrasing the bill in this fashion makes passage more likely. Or less unlikely.
Yes, I just had to slip in that last note of pessimism.
But don't let pessimism overwhelm you. Get on the horn NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW!! Two minutes from now is too late! NOW!!

Miss P.
Already. Sometimes when you tilt against a windmill, it falls over.
I've been saying that we the little people should sit outside the polls on voting day and do our own exit polls. I personally think most Americans would want to vote again outside to double check. I betcha many people would volunteer..... it was a thought....
That tinyurl link is broken.
