Here we have a fascinating account of our President finally having a real moment with a real widow of a real soldier, despite the fact that both she and her fallen husband are lifelong, active Democrats.
Read the interview; this woman claims she was extremely direct with Bush, and that she looked into his eyes, and they cried together. She said he seemed moved, though she does not expect her words to change any policies.
Early in the meeting, Bush told her there was "no point to discussing the philosophy of the war," which is pretty cowardly and lame. However, if he did cry, I do wonder where he'll put his feelings about his encounter.
If I'm not mistaken, Paul O'Neill remarked in his book, The Price of Loyalty, that when discussions were taking place before the second tax cuts, Bush actually seemed puzzled and asked why this was happening because they'd already given 'them' one.
That question struck me. We all know Bush is a willfully clueless guy. But he is human, unlike the real Presidential powers, Cheney and Rove, who are both as close to evil through and through as you'll find. I've often wondered just what Bush might do if he discovered the truth of what's been done in his name all this time, and what would happen if his highly fortified and deeply deprived heart were actually touched at some point. The context of this wondering was always his twins, like what if a twin were to join up and die, or what if a twin got in his face after losing her lover to war, or some such. I know, I know, why do I bother my beautiful mind with such triflings. But there it is.
Long shot, I know. And of course, even if we can't really imagine just what Bush might do if he got his own, human clue about his role and his responsibility in all this, we do know what would happen to him if he tried to step outside the script. History is littered with the corpses....
Do these get buried alongside the fallen soldiers, then?

Bush is a shot out drunk who can barely put together a coherent sentence without reading an index card in front of him. Hell, even that basic skill appears to be diminishing rapidly, if press conferences are any indication of such intellectual "shrinkage."
Bush is no more capable of understanding the big picture than the Big Dick is of growing a heart...
But the PNAC founders knew this when they selected this arrogant, swaggering simpleton to be their puppet. If he "cried," it was probably because he was late for happy hour.
Yeah. I'd like to believe that Bush peeled away layers and layers of inhumanity for two seconds in a meeting with a grieving citizen--if only so he could fake sentiment to save one teeny, tiny bit of face--but I can't. Just don't believe that's possible, after all of the obvious brain damage he's inflicted on himself. If the story about the crying is in any sense true--my guess is that it was related to his medication. Well, that and the fact that he probably is pretty freaked right about now. Even Mommy and Daddy appear to have dumped him. He doesn't really have much left.
