Roger Ebert

Roger Ebert, America's finest film critic, is battling cancer. A progressive, humane viewpoint has always informed this man's writings. I'd love to see his work continue for many more years. Those of you who pray should send a few kind thoughts his way.

I was at one of those infamous 60’s parties in Old Town Chicago in 1967 when someone said "Hey, come over here and meet the cat they got to write the movie reviews for the Sun-Times." Those days, the role of film reviewer was regarded as a little above the hack who wrote the Horoscope. Needless to say, I was pretty un-impressed with this new guy in town – although the dope I was smoking probably would not make me an unimpeachable witness. Needless to say Roger Ebert went on to become a giant in his own time and even gave new life and reputation to the role of the film critic.
I wish him nothing but a swift return to health and two thumbs up in this the biggest battle of his life.

If Gene Siskel gave a thumbs down and Roger gave a thumbs up to a movie, I went to see it. Same still holds true.

Roger, two thumbs up to you, who never caused me disappointment at the movies, and may you have a swift recovery.

My Roger is my favorite writer (aside from Joseph). Does anyone have any updates, by the by?
