Truthout also claims that -- contrary to Luskin's statement -- negotiations did occur:
The electronic communication from Fitzgerald to Luskin, coming immediately on the heels of our Monday morning, June 12 article "Sealed vs. Sealed" that became the basis for the mainstream media's de facto exoneration of Karl Rove was, our sources told us, negotiated quickly over the phone later that afternoon. Luskin contacted Fitzgerald, reportedly providing concessions that Fitzgerald considered to be of high value, and Fitzgerald reportedly reciprocated with the political cover Rove wanted in the form of a letter that was faxed to Luskin's office. We shall have more soon. Right now, doc elsewhere is attempting to do some digging, and may have some original research on the subject.
Until then, let me say that I've come to a fiarly simple conclusion regarding the famous Blackberry message Rove received informing him that he is off the hook. Fitz needed to send a clear "no indictment" message to aid the case against Libby, who was asking for all documents pertinent to Rove.
When you think about it, nothing has really changed. Fitzgerald can still bring an indictment against Rove at any time. Of course, Truthout insists that he already has been indicted...!

Nobody's going to get indicted. And if they do they're going to get pardoned by Bush. Fitzgerald was put in place by the Bush admin. They're not worried.
Bread and circus.
joe, you get it. you got it. i'm more sure than ever that this is accurate. i'll have more very soon.
meanwhile, anon, go get a law degree, and then we might listen to you.
if you know ANYTHING about how justice works in this country, about how the laws work and how prosecutors and defense attorneys work, you know the process is very slow. fitz is a methodical and meticulous professional. if you inquire anything at all about him, you'll learn that. and it is very clear that he is going after cheney and his whole gang. in that scheme of things, rove is but a bit player.
and i'll remind you, libby has already been indicted, or did you miss that memo? the fact is also that fitz was NOT put in place by bush players. the man who appointed fitz was comey, and he had to do this because both gonzalez and ashcroft were up to their eyeballs involved. he wisely gave fitz extremely broad latitude, essentially powers equivalent to the AG.
and, finally, excuse me, but they ARE worried. VERY worried.
if we can stop being juvenile impatient long enough to allow the justice system to do its work, and not start eating our own without enough information to know which end to stuff it in, we just might prevail in this situation.
patient. and some discerning scrutiny. to blast fitz because he does not deliver the right pizza with the right topping that you ordered as fast as you want it is just childish.
this situation is a growing pain, and we do need to keep our eyes forward on maturity instead of falling back into childish ways.
sorry to be so harsh, but it's not as if you were at all kind to fitz, and he's not even here to defend himself!
crap! anon 10:34AM So Fitz and company is in place to soothe the masses with the suggestion that justice is still being served. what a crock of shi..t.
how depressing to hear that there is no justice whatsoever. We've got a bunch of wealthy powerful thugs who stole the last few elections, and are now in the process of turning the US into some hybrid version of a cross between Germany during the 3rd Reich and Chile under Allende.
Liberals are considered terrorists because anyone who isn't with us, is against us, type of philosophy.
The media has been bought by the wealthy and powerful so they can control what news gets reported and the masses haven't a clue that they are no longer getting independent news.
The Washington Post seems to be nothing more than a place for expatriate CI**a folks who get "consulting" fees for writing articles that the gov/ci*a wants the masses to believe. Salon.com is so desparate for revenues that it is willing to post compromised writing such as manjoo who is really nothing more than a gov paid consultant. let's get real.
what a farce. the US constitution is no longer by the people and for the people but is run by the most unethical, corrupt, wealthiest, criminal and run for themselves and their "friends" benefit at the expense of the majority of the population.
Instead of no child left behind, it should be called, rule by th 1% over the 99%.
The GOP rightwing in power is certainly having a Grand Old Party right now, and they are only getting richer, more powerful and more criminal. they could give a rat's ass about the rest of us since we're liberals and we're "godless".
One thing they can't buy is good karma, they have to earn it. and they stink.
Amongst my personal theories, I think I've got it narrowed down:
Fitz, indictment in hand, as yet unsigned, but easily done so if needed, Fitz says no charges "at this time" that is, while they check out some of the facts recently given by Rove! It's his little "Rove motivator" to roll over on someone else. Fitz had to read it to Rove and Luskin to show how serious it was and what they would be up against. Oh yea, it's going higher!
I love this story!!! And I love TO!!
Miss P
We may have a Fitz of July afterall! Go Fitz!
Looking forward to what dr. e digs up!
Miss P.
so far, miss p is the closest to the story. consider the alternative explanations to alternative realities (such as luskin's), and it's the only one that makes sense.
i will also remind everyone that, prior to luskin's announcement last week, all the chatter was about cheney's involvment.
notice the rovian shift. don't fall victim to that agenda.....
more very soon.
So sad to see so many Fitz critics still mouthing off in the comments section here of all places. I prefer to do my own research and rely on personal impressions first, but when I need confirmation about whether or not I'm being too generous in deeming someone credible, I check and see what Joeseph thinks of said someone. That's usually the acid test for me. I wish the "Fitz-is-a-Republican-plant" folks would bother to engage their brains for a bit, then paw through the Cannonfire archives before spewing any more of their delusions here again. It makes them look like lazy jackasses (not to mention cowards).
Jen/Dr. Elsewhere,
i don't think Fitz if a repub plant but I don't have alot of confidence in the "process". Even if rove is temporarily off the hook and has cut a deal in order to get more info on Libby/cheney, the Repubs wouldn't allow the wheels of fitz justice continue that would result in indictments.
so, expect some sort of new 'event', a disaster of some sort in July/august that would further enable bush to take more control over this country. If this 'event' happens, then this country will truly be running under a dictatorship.
I don't have much faith since they have gotten away with so much and will continue to get away with whatever they want to.
Please read the Joseph Lauria (Washington Post) story that TO links to. Something is wrong wrong wrong with Lauria's story.
