Ivo H. Daalder, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institute, hopes to ratchet down talk of a war with Iran. He confesses that we are seeing what looks very much like a replay of the build-up to war with Iraq. But, he argues, we now operate within a different context: "Back then, America was still under the spell of 9/11..."
Precisely. Which means that soon we will be under the spell of the next terrorist incident.
If the war planners had not made an irrevocable decision for war, then why did they ask Turkey for the use of their bases? Why did the U.S. deep-six snap inspections of Iran's nuclear program? The men who covet Iran's oil are serious -- so serious, that they will stage a new "sink the Maine" scenario if one is needed. I'll say it for the second time today: The power-mad Bush administration has every reason to stage a new domestic attack. When it happens, do not believe one official word.

Don't worry, Joseph. I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be many who didn't see through this. Some might pretend to go along with it out of an instinct for self-preservation or sheer nihilistic bellicosity. But the gang "in charge" is simply too transparently dishonest and downright evil for anyone with a full complement of marbles not to know what they are capable of - and have done before.
It's clear that the Israeli Lobby which pushed us into war with Iraq is now hot for us to attack Iran, both for the same reason, namely that both countries hate Israel for its occupation of Palestine. Indeed, as reported in "The 9/11 Commission Report" p. 147, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, mastermind of 9/11, attacked us because of our biased support of Israel's occupation. Of course, Israel, which has hundreds of nuclear weapons, is allowed to forego joining any non-proliferation treaty, forego any inspections, is allowed to ignore UN resolutions calling for an end to the occupation, etc.
