It's official: We have a movement

It won't be a quiet week in Lake Wobegon, out there on the edge of the prairie. Garrison Keillor -- one of the few Democratic voices heard and respected by red staters, a man difficult to smear or "swift boat" -- has called for the impeachment of George W. Bush.
Our adventure in Iraq, at a cost of trillions, has brought that country to the verge of civil war while earning us more enemies than ever before. And tax money earmarked for security is being dumped into pork barrel projects anywhere somebody wants their own SWAT team. Detonation of a nuclear bomb within our borders -- pick any big city -- is a real possibility, as much so now as five years ago. Meanwhile, many Democrats have conceded the very subject of security and positioned themselves as Guardians of Our Forests and Benefactors of Waifs and Owls, neglecting the most basic job of government, which is to defend this country.
Snicker if you must, but I say that Keillor is one of the best writers America has ever produced. Don't be fooled by his quiet manner, his folksy approach and his un-hip radio audience: This guy has balls. How many other men of letters in our country will join his call?

No snickers here, my beloved Garrison is an excellent writer. I've been listening to him since I was but a wee child (thanks, 'rents!). He's been vocally anti-Bush for a while, but this development is interesting.

your fans of garrison should definitely check out 'homegrown democrat' if you haven't already. it's one of the best assessments of our current dilemma out there, and yeah, guy noir is really pissed.
