So THAT'S why he won't criticize W

Turns out Colin Powell and George W. Bush are related. (Many thanks to the always-astonishing Professor Hex for drawing our attention to this one.)

More to the point, the information is severely truncated, as noted by the little double-lined symbol on the connecting lines.

It's about 700 years between the births of Bush and Powell and that of Edward Longshanks. If you consider a generation to be 20 years, that's 35 generations back.

It's been estimated that most people of northern European descent have Charlemagne back in their ancestry, whether they can trace it or not. Counting two parents, four grandparents, 8 g-g-parents and so on, it doesn't take many generations to get back to thousands of ancestors, some of whom are already related in other ways.

A non-issue, genealogically speaking.
