The new flu

No, I'm not talking about avian flu. This one strikes dogs. As many as five percent of the canines who contract the disease may die. It's spreading throughout the U.S. and there is no vaccine. Any suggestions as to how one might keep a pooch safe?

Garlic has antiviral properties. For years I've taken garlic whenever I feel something coming on, and I don't get sick any more. I shallow it like a pill to avoid garlic breath. The only side effect I've noticed is garlic sweat and garlic farts.

Garlic is great for humans and pizzas. Maybe not so great for dogs and vampires. SOme say that dogs are mildly allergic to the stuff. However, there are dog food recipes out there that call for it. Many dogs like the taste. (THey also like cheese, but you shouldn't feed THAT to dogs either.)

Joseph, I'm sorry I was so
irresponsible as to make a medical
suggestion without investigating it
thoroughly. A friend had said her vet
recommended garlic to keep away fleas,
but I was not aware of any toxicity
issue. It just goes to show--be
careful about what you read on the
internet!

I wonder if it has already mutated to cats. A friend of mine recently lost a cat due to acute onset of respiratory problems and difficulty breathing.
