Bradblog offers the best dissection of the widely heard lie that New Orelans mayor Roy Nagin had 2000 buses at his disposal which he did not use to transport evacuees. The story seems to have originated with Moon-man Wes Pruden. Once more, the good Reverend's legions have poisoned our national discourse.
Even if Nagin had those buses, I've always wondered: Transport the evacuees where? Bussing refugees across state lines would seem a job best arranged by the feds...

Knowing Nagin, he would have sent the buses to Baton Rouge and told them, "Park in front of the State Capitol and the Federal Building until someone tells you where to go." You can bet that with a tide of humanity sitting on their veritable doorstep they would have figured out something "lickety-split" (as Nagin would put it)!
Of course, he didn't have the buses, so the question is moot.
