It's Pat!

A reader has advised me to offer a correction. A couple of posts ago, I referred to Pat Robertson as a Southern Baptist --- a bit of background info gleaned from his Wikipedia profile. His actual theology, however, reflects Pentacostalism.

Or so my reader says. To my eyes, his bloodthirsty beliefs seem to derive from old Robert E. Howard stories.

The distinction comes down to this: Pat likes to spew nonsense syllables and pretend that he is speaking the language of the angels. It's the old Eddie Kelley trick, vulgarized. Southern Baptists don't go in for that sort of thing.

Does his penchant for glossolalia mean that Robertson has converted from one denomination to another? I'm not sure. Perhaps a reader can help us navigate these waters...

I appologize for being off topic but I wanted to express my outrage that Democraticunderground.com banned TruthIsAll for getting a little feisty. This shows that DU is simiply a childrens crusade run by simpletons who are unable to recognize exceptional talent. This is on the heels of the KOS commandment that all those who believe in election fraud shut up or leave (issued by the eloquent (sic)) Armando. The left public forums, DU and DKOS are run by childish, narrow minded little dictators who ought to be appropriately punished and sent to bed without dinner. DU has earned a place in internet infamy for its narrow minded, self-defeating behavior. Shame on Admin "Skinner" for being such a nitwit and damaging the cause of voting rights. Some Democrat! Some forum!

Joseph

why do I have the creeping feeling that something terrible horrible is about to happen to the American people in the next month or two? It's a small knot growing in the pit of my gut.

I am getting the vibe that we're about to switch over pretty soon to a dictator mode regime with the fascist neo-nazi shadow government as headed by Nixon/Bush Sr/Bush Jr coming out of the closet at long last?

A lot of innocent people will be suffering if this atomic 9/11 threat transpires and the US shifts over to complete martial law. The economy will be ruined and we'll be in the worst world depression since the thirties.

anyway to stop these 3rd reich animals? Unless the folks who helped let 9/11 and aided and abetted them are "outed", there seems to be no way out.

thanks

Pat Robertson is a Pentecostal. He used to brag about it often in his early years and was a spokesman for the "Charismatic" renewal wave of Pentecostalism that swept through the churches..Protestant and Catholic in the late sixties and seventies.
Appearnatly the Pentecostal experience does not bestow intelligence along with the gifts of the spirit such as tongues, interpretation of tongues, increased faith, prophecy, healings, increased faith, and loud and boisterous praise and worship including dancing a jig "in the Spirit".
The early Quakers, Shakers, Mennonites, and Dukhabors were also Pentecostals in the 1700's and 1800's.
A reading of the Book of Acts in the New Testament, gives the reader the background for the phenomenon since all 120 disciples and followers of Jesus, gathered together to wait in expectation, and pray together as Jesus told them to do after the resurrection. As the good book says "like a mighty wind" the Holy Spirit came into the room as tongues of fire entered into each head, and "they all" spoke in tongues, and the church was born that day.
Unfortunately the spiritual IQ is not appreciably increased hence you have hundreds of charlatans ala Pat Robertson who have hijacked the believers for earthly gain, popularity, and religious power among the sheep.
Bahhhhhhhhh I say. Sheep Wake Up! Your leaders are preparing you for a slaughter not the long awaited "Marriage Supper of the Lamb"

In repsonse to the the post about the vibe of something major transpiring soon, look at the weather right now and note where Katrina is expected to make landfall. If New Orleans does take a direct hit, this would be both a terrible blow (pardon the pun) to our economy but also politically. Fema has been effectively tapped out by the storms in Florida last year and this one.
Not to mention the insurance companies were very hard hit already by these other storms too. The cost of rebuilding a city this size and the length of time that it would take to drain the floodwaters alone could spur a lot of debate about global warming and the effects of future storms across the nation.
We could easily expect that it would take some form of martial law to get the survivors and deceased out of the city along with the cleanup. Remember this is not only a MAJOR city, but a very vital port for oil and other equally important goods such as grain as well.
There are also numerous chemical plants along the Mississippi River that could be damaged during this storm too, along with the offshore platforms that lie in the way.
Yes indeed, this could turn into the necessary spark to the tinderbox of complete takeover of our rights at least temporarily.
Let's hope that scenario doesn't take place.

To the last poster, thanks, you're right on the money. if this storm comes ashore, it will devastate New Orleans and the surrounding areas. hopefully it loses some of its punch before it reaches the shore.

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/08/28/national/29katrinacnd.html

Threatened with a potential catastrophe, the mayor of New Orleans ordered people in the city to evacuate today as Hurricane Katrina gained strength. President Bush has already declared an emergency for Louisiana and Mississippi, which along with other parts of the northern Gulf coast states lie in the direction of the hurricane.

Hurricane Katrina is a Category 5 hurricane, which means its storm surges are generally greater than 18 feet above normal and that its winds exceed 155 miles per hour. Only three hurricanes of this strength have ever hit land in the United States since the category was recorded: the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935, Hurricane Camille in 1969, and Hurricane Andrew in 1992, the hurricane center said.

The hurricane's landfall could still come in Mississippi and affect Alabama and Florida, but the storm looked likely to come ashore Monday morning on the southeastern Louisiana coast, said Ed Rappaport, deputy director of the National Hurricane Center in Miami, The A.P. said. That put New Orleans squarely in its sights, the agency said.

Hurricane Katrina churned through the Gulf of Mexico on Friday, after cutting a swath through southern Florida and leaving seven people dead. Three people who died in the hurricane were crushed by falling trees. One man lost control of his car and rammed into a tree. Three others drowned, including two who tried to ride out the storm in a houseboat.

you can take the following with a grain of salt or that the author is simply just a tad on the paranoid side...

just had several dreams over the weekend about the US military/police roundups post implementation of martial law:

you could be sitting anywhere minding your business and if the gov deemed that you were or the folks nearby were enemy combatants, all of you would be rounded up, stripped of all possessions (like your wallet/ID, purse, blackberry, clothes) and then thrown into some holding camp where you had no access to any kind of attorney and were just held indefinitely. These "holding camps" for supposed enemy combatants would become so large that they would start using the prisoners for slave labor projects and then hoping they just die off before they ever got a chance to pursue their case/see an attorney.

I see the future with the current regime and it's not a pretty picture. Unless Bush gets impeached, we won't have elections again (or real elections where the votes actually get counted) any time soon. Our so called democracy won't be any different than any country run by a brutal dictatorship.
