Authorizing force in Iraq

We tend to forget that when Kerry voted to authorize the use of force in Iraq, he voted on a law. The wording of that law now seems downright astounding.

As this piece demonstrates, the law presumes a connection between Saddam Hussein and 9/11 (a falsehood still accepted by nearly 40% of the American people!). Moreover, it went into effect only if the U.N. inspectors were not allowed to do their work. (At least, that is my reading of section 3(b)(1)(B).)

But Saddam did allow them to do their work!

That's the nasty little fact of history Republicans want you to ignore. That single fact makes the whole Iraq adventure illegal. Not just foolish -- illegal.
