What a difference a day makes...

For some time now, Kerry has been ahead in the polls. Today, the Wall Street Journal puts Bush ahead, 47% to 45%. Zogby has Kerry ahead of Bush by just one percentage point in the so-called "blue states," while Bush surges ahead strongly in the red states. Associated Press puts Bush ahead of Kerry 47% to 42% in the key battleground state of Florida. Senator Bob Graham, often cited as the most popular politician in that state and therefore a likely running mate for Kerry, turns out to be less popular now than once thought.

And just a couple of days ago, people were wondering if Kerry might have coattails. Now I'm beginning to wonder if he'll even have a coat.

No Democrat with W's sorry record could carry such high poll numbers. A misbegotten war, a history of deception, high unemployment, ghastly deficits, scandal, restrictions on our liberties, verbal goofs galore, a widespread suspicion that the Quayle of this administration sits at the top of the ticket -- and yet this president still has plenty of fans. Just what does Bush have to DO to make himself more widely disliked?
