P.J. Crowley, spokesperson for the State Department, was fired for denouncing the harsh treatment of Bradley Manning. Greenwald
has written a powerful piece about this ghastly situation. But I think David Frum
got it partially wrong when he wrote "Crowley firing: one more demonstration of my rule: Republican pols fear their base, Dem pols despise it."
A better formulation: "Republican pols fear their base. Dem pols fear the Republican base."
We gotta learn to be scary.
