The sex charges against Assange
I have not yet seen this documentary, but Craig Murray considers it excellent. Check back...after I view it, this post may be updated.
Update: Okay, I've seen the documentary. The situation is even more outrageous than I thought. Anyone who says that Assange "fled" Sweden is either naive or a paid disinformation-monger. The same goes for anyone who says that he faces a charge of rape.
This is the clearest put-up job I've ever seen. Of course the whole thing was engineered by D.C. Only a child would think otherwise. I used to dislike Assange, but this hideous perversion of justice makes me feel entirely sympathetic to him.
Even if you think you know what's going on in this case -- see this video.
Update 2: If the embedded video no longer works, go here.
I think what happened is pretty clear. When the women went to the cops trying to force Assange to take an STD test, his name came up in the system and all sorts of alarms went off. The CIA station in Sweden quickly cobbled together a conspiracy to bring Assange to the U.S. I presume that SAPO (which has a long history of close cooperation with the Americans) "had something" on the women. That's why they changed their stories and used a spooked-up law firm.

Amazing work by the other ABC. I did not know Assange remained in Sweden for 5 weeks in cooperation with the investigation. I have a feeling, the back and forth on the charges, is normal bureaucratic idiocy.
Rather than a conspiracy between Sweden and US, I think it was Opportunism. But how did US get wind?
Although the FBI and DHS lurk maliciously, they, like the other US incompetents, are more like low-grade morons waving guns around without a clue of the damage they can do. This is typical, and not anachronistic behavior, IMO.
Again, I emphasize, the intent is malicious, but the modus operandi, is verklempt.
That's good news/bad news--Omniscience is out of the question, even if there is funny business, going on.
Ben
His night with Wilen "might" have been consensual?
Why is the prosecutor talking about "representing the women in court"? He's meant to represent the state surely? Or to not act in court, if he's their lawyer rather than the prosecutor.
It didn't go into the CIA connection, through the once ubiquitous anti-Castro Cubans. Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist.
Although the Affair of the Swedish Subs, Olaf Palme, Anna Lindh, Konskriget, Sweden has a conspiratorial culture. Not that I should talk, as an Englishman.
The Grand Jury stuffs interesting, though.
The video has been removed.
And no sooner do you add your update than the video is no longer available.
On topic, obliquely.
The former Marine who was detained by the federal government over Facebook posts critical of the government is being held in a psychiatric ward, Peter BacquƩ of the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports.
"I'm currently in John Randolph in the psychiatric ward being held against my will," Brandon Raub, 26, said in a telephone interview with the Times-Dispatch. "[Authorities] were concerned about me calling for the arrest of government officials."
Raub noted that he has been raising questions about 9/11 and signed a petition to reopen investigation of the terrorist attacks.

FYI Ben
Joe - Youtube have taken down the Australian video. Got another link to it?
Craig Murray will be on the BBC's 'Newsnight' tonight, against neocon Rove-boy David Aaronowitch.
That's assuming Craig makes it to the studio.
The reason I say that is because party politics and supposed political differences among British newspapers seem to have completely disappeared, in the push to extradite Julian Assange. Call me the biggest Illuminati nutter around, but there's obviously a single cause, and for some reason the US government comes to mind.
'All hands to the pumps'.
Rove and the Obama administration don't seem to be fighting each other much, either.

Good video. Standard intelligence-agency entrapment methods, old as the hills. Unfortunate the Swedes and UK are puppets on the CIA string.
Video down at Youtube, but can be downloaded from the broadcaster's site here.
I've read the transcript of the ABC film, and although it's much better than anything the BBC would possibly make, it's not as great as I'd hoped. Maybe that's because it's TV? 40 minutes of TV has maybe 10 minutes of reading material in it. It would have been nice to have something on Ann Ardin's time in Miami.
There is a danger of confusing two things: Ardin as spook asset, which I think she almost certainly is, and Ardin as nutcase ultra-feminist, which sounds like cover. I doubt that she used that particular cover when she was with Cubans in Miami. The Damas de Blanco would have been unlikely to buy it.
Ardin may be an asset, but why wouldn't she have made the first complaint? If she wanted deniability, because of her connections, Wiles (sp?) was obviously a bad choice for backup. It just seems haphazard, retrofitted, as if an afterthought to go after Assange.
Sexual misconduct is a fav for these purposes. There is no doubt the Feds saw an opportunity, but well after the fact. It doesn't dilute the efforts to manufacture excuses, and they don't have to ask for permission, nor do they have to repent, unless they screwed up, and I think there is more evidence for that than the criminal charges.
Ben
One of Assange's two accusers, Anna Ardin, is a well- known pro-Palestinian activist. This may have helped Swedish or U.S. intelligence to get something to pressure her with.

Newsnight interview with Craig Murray and an Independent columnist, and proud feminist.
7 minutes devoted to the entire buttfuck with Murray catching.

Ben
Wilen and Ardin made a "request for advice", which is the standard way used in Sweden by walk-in informants, who can't then be pursued for making complaints.
E.g. "I'm not sure what my neighbour's up to, but he had a big package delivered, and I'm not saying it's 10kg of heroin, and maybe it's wholly legitimate, but if you're interested at all, you might decide to try to find out."
That's why we get the crap about asking the police to order Assange to be tested for STD, rather than accusing him of rape or assault. Why Sofia Wilen wanted out of there is another question. Maybe she was playing Monica Lewinsky to Ardin's Linda Tripp?
There's a hell of a lot of hypocrisy in Sweden. For example, when the police book you for a minor motoring offence, they will tell you that you've got to pay extra on top, to cover the state's bank charges for processing your payment! They'll just tell you "that's how it is in Sweden". Of course, look into it a bit and you'll find it's a complete lie.
Sweden's owned by one family - the Wallenbergs - although they let the Bonnier family run most of the media for them.
@Anon in Denmark - I thought Ardin only went to Palestine after she made the allegations against Assange?
Anna Ardin asked on Twitter "CIA agent, rabid feminist / Muslim lover, a Christian fundamentalist, frigid & fatally in love with a man, can you be all that at the same time ..."
Sure you fucking can, if the first one's true!
Highly variegated political backgrounds are what you'd expect for a certain kind of spook asset.
