Jimmy gets it right and wrong

Y'know, Jimmy Carter could run for president again. Just saying.

I didn't much care for his first administration, and I know that he's pretty old now. Still, I like to think that white hair and wisdom go together. Here is the former President, laying into the current President's drone assassinations -- and bravo to Carter for saying what few in the media dare to say.

Alas, Carter messes up when he addresses the ISIS crisis...
“First of all, we waited too long. We let the Islamic state build up its money, capability and strength and weapons while it was still in Syria,” he said. “Then when [ISIS] moved into Iraq, the Sunni Muslims didn’t object to their being there and about a third of the territory in Iraq was abandoned.”

Carter sees some hope for the current American policy against ISIS in Iraq where troops on the ground will follow up after air strikes.
Carter should read this blog, and the stories to which I've linked. We didn't "wait too long." We built up ISIS -- or at least we looked the other way while Saudi Arabia and other dubious allies made sure that ISIS had lots of money, capability and strength. Carter seems befuddled as to what to do about ISIS in Syria, because the obvious move -- a temporary alliance with Assad -- is the Great Unspeakable. Yet no other course of action will work.

So Carter still isn't giving us the real shit. But it's realer shit than the shit we're getting from Obama.

I wouldn't trust any Democrat to the so-called right of Kucinich to
give us the truth and the remedy.

And certainly I don't trust Rand Paul, who even got a favorable namecheck for his increased hawkishness in a Commentary! post about a Jindal candidacy yesterday.

Nor should his father trust him.
