How to rescue the Democratic Party?

Even Hines Site is calling Obama the presumptive Democratic nominee.

The Democratic party now belongs to Moulitsas, to Stassinopoulos, to Brzenzinski, to the Daley machine. No liberal can, in good conscience, stand with these monsters. One reason I started this blog was to oppose the thuggish "Free Republic" mentality, which threatened to become the dominant political mind-set of this nation. Now, the progressive movement has become even more brutish, more propagandistic, more fascistic. (No, I will not apologize for using that word.)

Therefore, I would be inconsistent if I did not do everything in my power to bring about the defeat of Barack Obama in the general election.

I am, at heart, a liberal Democrat. One can be either a progressive or one can be a liberal Democrat. One cannot be both.

I've seen what the progressive movement has degenerated into -- rationalization for Libertarianism, Identity politics, dehumanization of any perceived opponent, personality cults, mindless conspiracism, and -- worst of all -- contempt for the Liberal consensus of the 1945-1980 era. A "progressive" candidate who wants to privatize Social Security -- a "progressive" who calls for unity with the Republicans while alienating and insulting half of his own party -- has somehow become tagged as the Great Left Hope.

What has the Democratic party come to?

What is the difference between Ken Starr and Markos Moulitsas?

Obama owes his delegate count to the unfair tactics of bullying and intimidation perpetrated by his zombie followers in the caucus states. How can anyone denounce what the Republicans did in Florida in 2000 while accepting what the Obama forces did in the Texas primary? How can a blogger who gained an audience writing about vote fraud in 2004 close his eyes to caucus fraud in 2008?

If Barack Obama loses the general -- loses big -- and if blame for that loss goes (in large part) to Moulitsas, Reid, Pelosi and the progressive movement, we can rescue the Democratic Party. We must sacrifice this election to regain our soul.

The Obama campaign made an historic mistake when it called the Clintons "racist" and when it encouraged the Progblog smear campaigns. We must send a message to the Democratic Party leadership: Never do this again.

Yep, over. She won Indiana barely and got a thumpin' in NC. It's over.

How to save the Democratic Party? Good question! A few suggestions:

1. For Prez, vote your conscience. I simply can't get my fingers to say, "Vote McCain."

2. For everything else, vote Democratic. With a Dem Senate and House of Reps, Prez McCain can't do too much damage.

3. Try to communicate however you can to the Hillary camp that after she wins Kentucky and WVA, she should bow out gracefully and avoid a bruising battle over rules. Stop talking about how much you welcome a shattered Democratic Party. Parties are strange things. They hang around for a long while. It won't shatter. You'll just drive more Dems to the Republicans, and create a monster even worse than what we have.

4. Start a movement to get Hillary to become the Senate Majority Leader. Dump Reid, that schmo.

5. CHANGE THE RULES OF THE FRIKKIN DEMOCRATIC NOMINATION PROCESS, fer cryin out loud. No more caucuses. Winner take all. NO CROSSOVER PRIMARIES - only registered Dems get to vote in Dem primaries.

If Hillary can push through rules changes, and if she can be a thorn in President McCain's side, you might actually end up calling her Madame Shadow President.

My two cents...

Amen. Is Cynthia McKinney going to be on some states' ballots? Just wondering...

Joe,

I’m going to play Devil’s Advocate here. (Mind you, I agree with your conclusions. But a little constructive argument goes a long to clarifying issues.)

You criticize the Obama Machine for winning by taking advantage of the caucus system. But you go to war with the army you have, don’t you? The Clintons knew the rules. Why didn’t they get wise to this glaring error in the system and take advantage of it? You cannot fault Obama for doing what he needed to win.

Meanwhile, here’s a longtime Obama watcher from Chicago:

I love making political predictions. Mostly because I am so often spectacularly wrong and I pay no consequences! So, here’s another.

McCain is elected Prez. Hillary pushes out Reid and becomes Senate Majority Leader. She and McCain work together in a political marriage rather amicably.

It’s Hillary’s fate to be First Lady – until the day she leaves politics. When the history books are written, she may well end up having influenced history more than many a President.

I am so in agreement with all here with the exception of "staying home" There are always local or
state issues on the ballot that I must vote for or against, but I
will deliberately skip the president in Nov if it comes to McCain/Obama choice.

Okay, I know it's hard to stay positive, because, well, Democrats, but it's not over.

I hate to dirty up this blog with references to the non-rational, but seriously? Obama has NO SHOT. I know it looks impossible from where most of you are sitting, but an Obama presidency looks impossible from my perspective. J., what happened to never betting against the Scorpio?

Hang in there. She's not done yet and neither is our Party.
