Why the attack on Syria?

Remember when the Israelis bombed that "nuke facility" in Syria? It wasn't a nuke facility at all -- although it was roughly similar in design to a North Korean reactor site. Larisa Alexandrovna does a victory lap because the Washington Post has confirmed her original reporting. She also reminds us that the American media had earlier treated the public to bullshit stories about Israeli commandos finding radioactive materials in the area.

The Post asks:
Also unclear is why Israel chose to use military force rather than diplomatic pressure against a facility that could not have produced significant nuclear material for years.
Perhaps because the Israelis felt "it's now or never?" Bush, their great enabler, grows politically weaker by the day. The next administration may not be so keen on singing "Israel, Israel ueber Alles."

Of course, conspiracy buffs of a certain stripe will label that theory Thoughtcrime Most Foul. They hold as a tenet of faith that Mossad wields absolute control over all American politicians, including and especially the Democrats.

Still, if my theory holds any water, we should expect further displays of Israeli adventurism in the near future. Without a leash, the dog will bite.

I agree with joseph on the need for decorum, in general. But, I really liked the fact that protesters were able to shout "war criminal" in condi's face today. And I'm hoping for more. Am I being a hypocrite?
Was there a difference there for some reason?
